i have just installed XP again. well to make it short
i had installed a new motherboard.

and so had to reinstall XP. i had alot of trouble formating C:

so i found my old MS DOS 6.22 floppy disks.

put in the first disk and formated C: then put in the next disk and it couldent read it. (its an old disk)

i then put in the win Xp cd.
    and installed XP.

fine so far. exept for 2 problems

    1. when i start op, i have to choose witch OS to use.

    Windows XP and
    MS-DOS

    realy anoing.

even more so since MS DOS isent realy installed just 1 of 3 disks.

    2. C: is just 2 GB and it is full. but it is a 200 GB drive
so how to use it all ????

i think that the DOS thing is so old it couldent go higher than 2 GB,
but that leaves me in trouble now.

so please help. is the some thing i can do. ???? HELP HELP

Go to www.bootdisk.com and download a boot disk for Windows XP. Put that on 1 floppy, and boot to your floppy drive. When the A: prompt comes up, run fdisk and remove all the partions you have made. This should get rid of them and then you can boot to your XP disk and format it to NT and install XP on the hard drive. Doing the fdisk and clearing out those partions should give you back most of your 200 gigs.

when you were install XP and it showed you the existing drive structure,
did you try to delete, then press l?
Ideally, the installer would have allowed you to delete *all* existing partitions, and then do do a full NTFS format of the drive.

The boot disk suggestion sounds good, and I'd also suggest using KNOPPIX to wipe the drive if you don't have a floppy drive.

Yes there is another way, msconfig,
the BOOT.INI tab, allows you to remove the unwanted entry.

If you just reinstalled I would just try to reinstall again. This will take care of the 2 partition problem. When reinstalling just delete all partitions and then create a single partition using the whole disk.

    To change your bootup options:
    Right click MyComputer
    Click Properties
    Select the Advanced tab
Click the Settings button in the Startup and Recovery frame
Now you can choose the default OS and the time to wait.

yes but if i reinstall i would have the same problem. right ?

there is just one partition. on the drive. i could make a nother one on 184 GB
and install it there.and then some how try to delete the 2 GB. C: with windows and DOS on it ?? but i have tryed something like that in the past and it want delete windows. even an un used one.

i could try to format it. and then install on D:

My advice would be to do the fresh install rather than playing around with resizing partitions.

If you download the disk utilities from your HD manufacturer's website there should be an option to prepare the disk for an OS install[completely format and delete the existing XP install]. It only takes a few minutes and then Windows Xp disk should run fine allowing you to delete the newly created partition and choose any size you want.

Whole process should only take 1 hour or so. 15 min. for preparing the disk and 45 min. for XP.

There is a partition resizer on this MG page but I've never used it and find all partition software tricky to use at best.

Manufacturers disk are also available for Maxtor and Western Digital drives on this page.

You may not run into the same problem when you do a fresh re-install. While installing delete all partitions and create a new partition using available free space. Just read all setup screens carefully. The screens are self explanatory but if you rush through you may hit something wrong by accident. If you need some help here is a good tutorial with screen shots.
    Fresh install XP.
