At last Australians can elect not to receive most of those Telemarketing calls from Indian, and other, call centres.

Usually around 6pm, an Indian voice saying "I am Bill. How are you?"
Whoever heard of an Indian call centre caller named Bill. :D

Link to elect out if you haven't been watching TV or listening to the radio lately.

I wish they had that here. I get really p`d off with these people on the other side of the line I cant even understand properly. Especially when Im paying for the call.

Im not racist dont get me wrong, but isnt it fair to have someone you can understand?!

Id even rather an ozzie than someone from an eastern european or asian country, at least you almost speak the same language!!! ;)

the wife and I never really got too many of these telemarketing calls. But,when she heard of the DO NOT CALL legislation here in the states she had to sign up.:( Biggest mistake we ever made!!!!! I get more calls from computers and sales people now than ever before. I know that Iam just supposed to go thru this pitiful dialogue of telling the person on the other end to stop and desist or I will report them and then they are never supposed to call back or they will be prosecuted (yea, sure). What a crock!!!!! I don't know about Australia, but here in the states the DO NOT CALL list does not prohibit charitable organizations or institutions that you have financial agreements with or any company associated with those businesses to contact you with some special offer just for 'lucky' you, or political associations. Just what I need is another scumbag politician calling me. Sorry, I forget, he (or she) is just trying to give back. Seems to me that when we put our name on that list it was just made public to all these :crap businesses.

Like I said, I don't know about Australia, but you might investigate a little further before signing up, if you don't get that many calls now. I just let the phone ring now till it goes to the answering machine. If I do pick it up and there is the slightest hesitation after I say hello, I just set it down on the table and walk away for awhile. Come back later and hang it up. The wife says I'm rude. Me?.....RUDE?.........nooooooooooo not me! Well, probably, but
    I don't care!
Even my newest son-in-law learned to answer after I said hello and then walked away when there was no response from his end and he couldn't phone back because it was in use. God, I love being old and crotchety.
sorry this turned into a rant. By the way, if any of the fairer sex out there get obscene phone calls, I have a solution that ends them immediately. My daughter started getting these pervs and once she let me know about it the problem was solved instantly at the next call. I should use it on the telemarketers.
beat wishes in Oz Bazza. Hope your public servants actually make it work for you.

You can stop most of them here Wayne:)

Go to www.tpsonline.org.uk and register your details and number online.

It works great for me :)

Oh, I got it wrong, durrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I thought it meant foreign call centres. Not advertising! I really aught to read the posts more than once eh?

My number is X-Directory anyways and I rarely get junk calls. If i do I tell them `im not interseted` in a bit of a naughty kind of manner! (which i cant say here!)

A lot worse than oldandconfused`s method but still effective!

    :D

Odd, my experience with do not call has been excellent. Before I registered I was bombarded, it slacked off noticably afterwards. The charity and old business calls were not that bothersome to begin with, the other breed was down right pushy. I have even had the pleasure of explaining to someone calling me that they were in violation of federal law, just before I uttered the majik words "Do Not Call" and hung up. They haven't called back.

after I posted I realized that my solution to obscene phone calls could be abused. please do not ask for more info. I'm glad most of you have had good luck with the DO NOT CALL program. I for one have not. Seems like all we did was put our land line number out there for even more companies to see and target.

Do not call worked great to begin with but now we get recorded messages with restricted numbers, how they expect that to work is beyond me.
Don't forget to add your cell numbers also.

I did "opt out". I will see if it makes any difference.
"They" have 1 month's grace apparently to update their records, so as not to call "opt out" numbers.

Pity we didn't have the opportunity to "opt out" of politicians calls.:( :p :cry

Keating (Labour) cost me my house.
Howard (Liberal) cost me my guns, and hunting as a by product.

So I don't vote for either party, and never will.

I have simply made both my mobile (cell phone) and home (landline) numbers silent (so not listed and operator cannot give out number either).

Family and selected friends have home and mobile numbers while "others" (mainly business related) only have mobile number.

Found this approach solved nuisance/marketing calls to zero.;)
