You may want to read this article titled, Run Mac OS X on a PC.

Note that it is illegal to run OS X on a PC (as in installed on the hard disk) per the EULA. Its been done, by hacking.

Download Linux. You can get a good alternative OS experience from that.

    I prefer Sabayon for beginners.

I am a bit noob at Linux so I want to know something. Is Linux a type of OS that other OS build on?

    Not really, no.

Its probably like nothing you've ever used, but it can be just as simple as Windows for typical day to day tasks.

Its open source. Therefore, people have their own "flavors", called distributions.

Closed source software like OS X and Windows are not allowed to be modified or changed, therefore there is not a bunch of different types.

Some distros are easier than others. Some more restrictive than others, some less user friendly, some cutting edge, some bleeding edge, some focusing on stability.

Sabayon is cutting edge. I use Arch Linux, which is bleeding edge. The distro is updated almost daily, which is nice, but obviously can lead to bugs.

Most Linux distros are free. Dell is going to start selling PCs and Notebooks with Ubuntu installed. Another good option listed in this thread is Sabayon if you like eye candy. It comes with Beryl pre-loaded which is a bonus for people looking for a cool-OS environment. Beryl can often be tricky to install.

Its a wonder how people can be blinded by Windows' mind set when there is a free and better OS with greater looking graphic.

I dove into Linux not too long ago (Fedora 5) and love it. If not for game support I wound'nt use Windows at all.
