    Hello all,

I know that this might sound like a malware post, however, I have tried anything to solve this by running malware software, antiviruses and all came back with no results.

I have been trying to solve a problem with my MS Media Player 11. everytime I try to open it I get a Buffer Overflow Protection from my McAfee antivirus. I have tried to run for malware, spyware, and viruses, and there are none in my computer (at least using the various programs that I have tried: MS Defender, Spybot, McAfee Virus Scan, Trend Micro online scan).

I tried to uninstall and re-install Media Player with no success. I can run the player if I disable the Buffer Overflow Protection in McAfee, however, I'm trying to avoid that, as I feel safer if it is always enabled.

Any thoughts on what could solve this problem?

    Cheers,
    Freddy

PS: I am attaching a copy of the message I keep getting.

    Thank you for your reply.

What they have suggested in the McAfee forum is that I put the LoadLibraryA in the exclusion list and this is what I'm trying to avoid.

As for the other updates, I have updated my Windows OS and all the software updates have been installed too. and I'm still getting this problem with MS Media Player only.

As for the other reply about the overclock forum, well I have stumbled on that thread and tried to see what they suggested but it didn't seem to work for me! I have tried what's written there..and it still didn't solve the problem.

    Hope to hear more answers.

    Cheers,

Freddy, by any chance is Vista your OS? Mine is and I had a lot of difficulty with MSMedia until I switched drivers. If Vista is yours as well, let me know and I will share what I did.

    No...I'm running Windows XP SP2.

and the problem is the same with Windows Media Player 10 & 11...no matter which version is there.

    OK Guys,

I'm just trying to update the information on this thread...I have updated my McAfee from VirusScan Enterprise 8.0 to 8.5 today and the problem is still there. however, I see new information about it.

Now it shows the Detected As: Bo:Stack Bo:Writable Bo:Executable.

I'm not sure what all that means...however, I'm attaching another image that shows the message(s) I'm receiving from McAfee.

I did a full system scan after I updated, and still McAfee didn't catch any files.

why you don't uninstall Mc'Afee soft( just for a short time),and install different antivirus software to see if other antivirus detects this buffer overflow.
