The pleasure from marine tanks is immeasurable but you do have to have dedication.
i had a marine tank for years started with a small 30inch job and progressed as i learned to finish with a tank that took up a whole wall in the house it was 12feet long 3foot wide and 4foot deep, my pride and joy were TWO lion fish and a number of assorted clowns and parrot fish with three hermit crabs to keep the bottom of the tank clean, under tank heating and all the filters and pumps built in under the tank stand the tank was almost 3 tons in weight but sometimes was better than television.
the end came when we went away for a holiday and we asked our neighbours to keep an eye on the tank they thought they were doing good although i told the not to they fed the tank every day and of course the filter system could not cope and fish began to die then the water was poisoned from the dead fish so more fish died and so on.
we could smell the tank when we stepped out of the car on the driveway we where up most of the night cleaning and pumping all the water out the house had a smell of rotten fish for weeks.
i decided then to stop it was heartbreaking but it would cost such a lot of money/time and effort to get the tank back up and running, so i sold the whole setup to my local marine dealer and he has it still 6 years later:cry

What a shame bill. Marine fish are very easily overfed and the best thing to do like i do is to set a timer where a small amount of dried marine flake food is dispensed every day when on vacation. It has worked very well over the years with no losses. Maybe some time in the future bill you may wish to try again as the new technology today is first class and more then capable of dealing with the odd mishap

i would love to start over maybe in a smaller way but my wife is dead against it after the last episode (like the elephant she never forgets) plus here where we now live in brugge there is only one shop that does marines and he very rarely ha anything unusual just clowns and the odd hermit crab.
when i had my big tank i was in the UK.

ps what's that with your address now UK/US

2 cats, small one scared of its own shadow, big one (fat cat) thinks it rules the village.
3 horses (don't ever let anybody try to tell you that people with money have horses.....People with horses have NO money!)

We had a hamster once, but as they have a very short life (2yrs), it is too upsetting to get another one.

We just got a new pet to add to the family on Sunday. I thought Id share it with any of you geeks that may wish to know. Hes a little 6 year old kitten, we called him Corky. I wanted to call him Burt (because our other cats named Kurt) but the the missus wouldnt let me. So after hours of debating we both thought Corky was decent enough!

Hes just getting used to being here now, Ive had to teach him to eat, every few hours I have to take the milk and food over to him to start him off or he just wouldnt bother. Our other cat is being well nice to him, cleaning him and all that.

Anyway heres three pictures. Sorry there not too good, he wont stand still for 2 seconds! Ill try to get some good ones tomorrow. You can see the size of him as hes stood by my trainer in one of the pics!

Congrats on the new addition. Corky suits...very cute. Reminds me of my own when he was a kitten - he was as hyperactive as yours sounds, then would suddenly fall asleep (just like a baby) in the silliest places and in the funniest positions.:D Always loved black cats!

    Cheers

Your little tiger's expression is definitely saying something...but can't quite make out what it is...LOL...nice looking cat, wonder if he/she rules the roost(?).

Like your dog's breed. Handsome. (Hope the cat didn't mistake him for a meal when he was a pup:D)

    That's one pet's litter tray I wouldn't care to change:eek :D

But on a serious note, down here you can take on pups destined to be police dogs (Police dept provides cost for feed/care), then when they reach training age, the police take them back. Great scheme.

    Cheers

He's saying, "Not the stupid camera again!!!! OK, Take the picture already!"
And yes, he rules. Abby (my dog) was barking yesterday and I yelled at her to stop. She got up on the couch and Jerry (my cat) walked over and swatted her a couple of times. I guess he figured she needed more punishment! LOL

My cat does that, he lies about like a human! I mean in the same sorta way I would lounge about, not how a cat usually would! :D

Actually that is HIS blanket, on top of HIS perch, in HIS room (I thought it was my bathroom closet). rolleyes When he lays on the couch, it is usually on top of me! But you do have the HE RULES part right. :D

She's so totally spoiled it's embarrassing; we both run to fulfill her every wish. So I guess we're pretty standard cat owners... :D

This is Casey, in her window. We put a blanket in the alcove, so she'd have something comfortable to nap on. She loves it.

Casey is as sweet as cats ever get, and she really loves attention, and people. Whenever we have friends over, she goes from person to person, basking in all the attention and admiration. She just doesn't like it when humans try to tell her what to do, for any reason. Again, pretty standard.

Mimsy, "your"* Casey is absolutely gorgeous. Cats have different looks about them but your Casey is a twin to my master...he has me well trained as wellLOL

Casey is astonishingly beautiful, even for a cat. We tell her that a lot, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's what brought on that arrogance of hers... ;)

We love her. Just like you probably love your cat, and spoil him... dogs have owners, cats only have pwnage.

Yep. Mine really knows how to push my buttons...certainly has his own personality. His first night home at 6 weeks I put him in a cane basket beside my bed only to find him curled up at the base of my neck upon awakening.

At such an early age, he would wake me by placing one paw on my eyelid and the other below my eye to open my eye and stare right at me! First time he did this I thought it was an anomoly, but regular practice proved it was his way of checking if I was awake! I stopped this when his paws got too big:D

So then he started to gently tap my face with his paws to wake me and if I ignored this, he would gently nip my face...if I still ignored him, he would then bite my nose with sufficient pressure to ensure I was fully awake! He keeps the same practice to this day!rolleyes

At 12 weeks old, he had sneaked out of the house to check on possums in the back garden. Loud possum noises and his meows woke me at 2am. Alarmed I found him up in our 100yr old tree with mum possum and her young one snarling at him. Without a thought I climbed the tree, snatched him before mumma possum got to him, the branch broke and I bounced off branches before landing on the garden bench with him happily purring at me. I ended up with 4 broken ribs. Ouch!:(

He often tantalised me by climbing up the same tree and resting with his legs dangling off both sides of a large branch like those pictures you see on large cats in Africa.

There was one large stray cat that terrorised him as a kitten in the yard, but once he matured in sensibility, strength and size, the tables were dramatically turned. It was suddenly a black panther on the attack. We've never had any cats on our property since.

He does take good care of me though. If I'm overworking at home he'll give me gentle taps to take a breather and if ignored will then lay on my hands or place both paws on my shoulders and just stare. His timing is always good - I find I do need those break times.

Ooops! I'm rambling. Enough of that. Gives you some idea of what I've got as a master.:D

    Cheers

    Hi Kestrel,

Casey is Mimsy's cat not mine. Casey is a twin to mine though! (I think that's where you got "confused"?) Anyway, Casey is gorgeous (so is my hunk of a master! Same features as Casey but built more like a footballer:D That is, thick neck, broad shoulders and small butt!).

    Cheers:wave

Your green Finch must be a real cutie pie Krestle. Wouldn't dare keep a bird around here. As it is there are many birds in the garden and he knows I will not tolerate any harm to them when I see him eyeing them. Can just read his thoughts: Hmmm....breakfast, lunch, dinner and tea!

All the photos posted on this thread would make a hard job for a judge to choose at a pets' competition. All wonderful looking animals aren't they? The names are interesting too. My "master's" name is Amon-Ra...suits him too, named after an Egyptian warrior prince.LOL

Actually, he's not chunky. He's long in body, long legs, built more like those American grid iron footballers when suited up - although he has the thick neck, broad shoulders and small butt, he is slim otherwise;). He is a big cat, (like a small dog) without a chunky look. That's why I think his name suits him...he looks the part of a black Egyptian warrior prince.:D

We bought our cat some catnip today. I let him have a small amount and the put it up on a dresser in our laundry room. Later, I was going out to grill and found him all doped up and laying in a pile of catnip!
This is what happpens when cats stop using catnip responsibly.
    These pictures are not pretty.
Don't let this happen to your cat!!!
