Sadly it happened to me today, when my car was parked near school. Nothing was taken luckily but the lock was prized open with a screwdriver and it's just hassle and annoying!!!!

Sorry to hear about your car. I guess they think you got nothing worth wild to steal but your lock ;) My mother is going to FL Monday and i am worried about someone breaking into her car while she is down there its a common thing there in Polk county and it being a newer SUV and thats whats makin me worried if she was going in her old car (that 91 Explorer) i would not worry to much. But newer SUV's are the worst for being stolen the most there.

Get her a steering wheel lock system...not too expensive, but beats all the hassle of recovering a stolen vehicle. We use them a lot in England....was really surprised nobody uses them out in Oregon.

@Mcadam...they probably got spooked, hence why nothing was stolen. Didn't you put a sweet Alpine stereo in recently? Bet they were after that. If you can remove the face panel as a security measure, do so, because they will be back.

Sorry to hear about that mcadam, from the looks of it, and the fact nothing major stolen, it would appear to be the work of some amateur car thief's. The Pro's are in and out in minutes, and "Target" what they want............Regardless it still is a hassle, because for along time after such a thing we become over concerned about where and how we leave our vehicles. Hope they catch them mcadams and string them up by their never regions.:guns:guns

Yeh I hope they suffer too.

Yeh I put a £180 Alpine head unit in - the fascia always comes with me though!

That's a bummer. It's no fun being violated like that. At least, they didn't bust a window to get in, like they do around here.

  12. Polite words can't describe people who do things like that.

You can buy a tool for repairing holes like that from motor factors. I've used one, but I also made an effective imitation using a large bolt, a nut and a couple of washers. From looking at the pic, it could probably be done by using one large washer (for inside the door) and a smaller one for outside, which sits in the recess. Then simply tighten the nut to squash the metal flat before repairing with filler. That's how the body repair shops do it.

It can also be done by holding a lump hammer head (or a panel beating dolly if you can get hold of one) on the inside of the door, and lightly hitting the dent from the outside with a very small ball pein hammer. This should get the metal back to the right shape for the lock barrel to fit. Skim over the damaged area with body filler. Halfrauds aerosol paints give a good finish if you want to have a go yourself.

my heartbreak was not having my car broken into but vandelised.

i used to live in Manchester (UK) many years ago and at the time bought myself an expesive new car it was parked in the carpark at piccadilly station while i whent to london by train for the day when i returned someone had gone all along one side with a key or penknife.

if i caught them i would happy to break their fingers:mad:boxing:guns

  14. There's not always logic to how things like this happen. I once left a fairly decent car parked in the street in a rough part of north London for a whole week. When I got back I fully expected it not to be there, but it was. and there was no damage to it.

And a few years ago, I had 2 good cars (BMW and a Fiesta) parked outside the house (in a so called respectable area) and one friday night, some idiots broke into them, plus one across the road (flash merc coupe). They broke the door windows with a brick and didn't even steal anything. The merc came off worse because the brick bounced off the drivers' seat and cracked the windscreen. The girl who owned it was fully comp insured so it only cost her a small excess. Mine were 3rd party only, so I spent the whole day cleaning shattered glass out, getting second hand window glass and fitting it. B@stards. The incident was reported to the police, but they didn't even come out to investigate it. I think they were busy doing something else more important, like filling in useless bits of paper at tax payers expense, or trying to stop drunks from beating each other up. http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gifhttp://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gifhttp://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gifhttp://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gifhttp://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gifhttp://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

well, seriously, how DARE you leave you locked car in a public lot in broad daylight, i mean... the AUDACITY that you leave it there and put faith in the decency of other people to leave it alone... the nerve...

Did I get enough sarcasm on ya? Think I might've. Dripped some on my shoe. ...

I'd have been very happy if it hadn't been there. I would have got more off the insurance company if it had been stolen than I would if I'd sold it. It got towed away once for being illegally parked. When I went to the police station to ask if they knew where it was, they initially said it wasn't on the computer as having been removed. So I was looking forward to getting an insurance payout. But sadly, the policeman made a phone call and then informed me it was at the Vauxhall Bridge car pound. Cost me £95 to get it back, plus the parking ticket. Rip off Britain at its finest.

Some people are honest. I got a surprise back in the 90s when I lived in a caravan on a traveller site. I went away for the weekend to a wedding, and forgot to lock the caravan. I also left an open case of wine on the doorstep. Nothing was missing when I got back, even with the door wide open and blowing in the wind. That definitely renewed my faith in human nature.

My car has been rummaged through three times in th last month, in my driveway. It's an old Tempo (my commuter beater) so I leave it unlocked with nothing in it. That way they don't wreck anything breaking in.

Sadly Jimmy, the theives actually target nice neighbourhoods as they are a better source of income. Why rob a half decent car off a council estate with a few coppers in the glove compartment?

People who rob stuff are bad I agree, but robbing from people just as hard up as yourself is lower than low!

That sucks! Hopefully you're car insurance covers this, (you are insured?). It still doesn't take away the bad taste of having someone violating something you own and like you said, the hassle and annoyance of getting it fixed adds to it. Well, what goes 'round, comes 'round, so here's wishing a double wammy on the person responsible.

Sorry to hear about it McAdam.
