Can anyone tell me how to update BIOS in laymen's terms. Is there another way I can update apart from the floppy disk thing..confused

    Can't really explain much more, I have a Asus P5N32 Premium 590i

Ok, I'm trying to use Asus Update to install the new BIOS but it won't seem to download, any help?

Getting a quad core soon so I need this new BIOS so that my mobo can support it ;)

The Asus website is famous for being VERY slow and unreliable; half the time the site is down. If you can get to where it asks what country you're in, try Europe, or Australia/New Zealand. As for updating the BIOS without a floppy.... some motherboards have an update feature that works from Windows, some don't. I don't think Asus has the Windows option :( Good luck with the Asus web site....

Yea, just picked up my quad core. Can't install it yet because current BIOS doesn't support damn Quad. I'll keep trying with the asus update feature...Honestly, you'd think there'd be a better way to install the damn thing....

May even asking a friend to install a temporary floppy disk drive into the comp so I can get the new BIOS up and get cracking on my Qx6700 :(

You can buy an external USB floppy drive for about $30 in most PC stores.... I did some research; your motherboard appears to have a BIOS flash option you can use in Windows called 'EZ Flash2' as part of the 'EZ DIY' features for your motherboard. I found this at the Asus site, and I tried to track down more info about your BIOS but asus.com is slow as ever, and the page I needed was down. Asus has alot of money; why don't they pay for some more bandwidth!!!! When I find more info of use, I'll post it.

Here's a direct link to the downloads for your motherboard:

I couldn't find any more info about the EZ Flash; but it appears that I was wrong; it does NOT flash the BIOS from within Windows. It's a BIOS option to make flashing easier (I think). You can always post on the Asus forums for your motherboard and BIOS questions. The forums for your model is linked to at the link above. Look in the left-hand column near the bottom for 'Forum'. I was able to download the latest BIOS, but for some reason I can't seem to attach it for you.... I'll try again....

    Here's the attachment.....
Nope, never mind, it still won't attach for some reason, sorry :(
You do have the P5N32 Premium 590 with SLI, correct?

Yessir, but I don't have a floppy driver and the asus update software thing is useless.

Like I said; external USB floppy drives are about $30, an internal floppy drive is less than $10. Maybe a friend can temporarily remove his/her floppy drive and let you borrow it.... without the floppy drive, you can't flash the BIOS; without flashing the BIOS, you can't use your new CPU. So investing $10-$30 in a floppy drive seems worth it to me..... good luck ;)

Floppy drives are a thing of yesteryear. I've updated my BIOS with Asus Update since I got this board (over a year ago). I still have my floppy drive in its plastic bag it shipped with. Never saw a reason to install it. It should be just as easy as downloading the file, and then updating it from the file on the hard drive with Asus Update. It may sound unorthodox, but I've burned more boards flashing with a floppy drive, than doing it from an updater in Windows. USB floppy drives are dangerous to flash with, if the usb ports stop working during the BIOS flash, which can happen-- it will error out and you will most likely smoke your BIOS w/ a corrupt BIOS image.

Ye, that EZ Flash had me scratching my for three hours until I did what Adry suggested. Useless piece of junk.
