I have a 128mb flashdrive, I have used it once to back up pictures, but deleted them when I put them back on my pc. Is there any way to undelete on a flash drive? Preferably free software if not commercial. I have lost 6 months of photos because of a problem the other day and would really appreciate if someone knows how I can recover this from the flashdrive if its possible.

    Thanks ;)

I recommend using Final Data NT (but it's not free)
Other free software should work just fine, like UndeletePlus which
can be downloaded from MG's download section: "Data Recovery"

Thanks guys. I tried the one you mentioned halo, it recovered some pics but a lot were in a rar format and it couldnt recover them :(

I looked round the free stuff here and there was none that I could find to work for me.

I ended up with a shareware option, which worked excellent. Active@Undelete. Top program.

Thanks to you both! I got 90% of my pictures back, couldnt get some. I think Diskeeper has been defragging my flashdrive? Maybee damaged the data eh?

But anyway it has been great to get back what I thought Id lost! And now ive made backups!!! Which I should have done in the first place!

A friend of mine who runs a computer repair business always warns me NOT to rely on USB sticks for vital data, every time I see him..

I've never had any trouble with USB sticks. I've got 7 ranging in capacity from 128 megs to 2 gigs, purchased over a period of time, as they got cheaper and cheaper.

I usually only keep stuff on them that is replicated somewhere else on my PC.

The latest one I use all the time, is mainly used for my Downloads. I keep it when I visit other computer owning friends in case they ask about something that I may already have downloaded, or there are tips and tricks info on it that may help solve their problem / s. Bazza

I don't know that Diskeeper would damage your Flashdrive data, but if you think it might be the cause of your problem you can clear the schedule for the drive under the "Set it and forget it" tab in Diskeeper.

Its all sorted now anyways ;)

What i was saying is it sees my flashcard as FAT drive and defrags it I think. I know this can be stopped however. When you delete something you want to recover I was told defragging may damage the data by writing over it. I presume this happened to some of my files thats all.

But as I say its cool now, and its taught me the hard way the importance of backups!

    Thanks ;)

I've used other defrag programs on USB sticks , with no problems. :)
I don''t know how they would go, if the free space was down to a minimum, however.
Maybe something to consider before anyone defrags a USB stick.

No bazza! I didnt lose any data, except data I had erased and tried to recover! I meant maybee when I deleted data, my defrag wrote over the deleted data if you get me!

I meant when you defrag it writes over blank space. If you have deleted something you wish to recover it. If a defrag has been running it may have wrote over the deleted file, making it impossible to recover.

Unsure if this is correct like but I assume it would be! But anyway my original problem is solved. ;)

Glad you solved it.:) If you delete a file I would think that defrag will treat those deleted files as "blank space" and write over them as if they were not there. Bazza
