It sounds like you have possibly removed the driver. Do you know what soundcard or hardware you have in your computer? It should tell you in the instructions? If not what PC are you using and I will try to find out?

Unless someone else can jump in and reccomend a program that will tell you this.

    -REMOVED AS WRONG INFO-

If not will you see if you can find out the full name and model of your PC?

Ill look through a few programs now to see if I can see which will tell you the soundcard youve got inside now.

It said the download I told you to get was corrupted? Strange? Ive just downloaded it confused

All I can suggest is goto the link above again and try to download everest again. I cant find out which driver you will need if I dont know the soundcard you have. If it is actually a missing driver causing your problem that is. Everest will tell you this you see.

If the download wont work thats got to be a problem at your end as all the downloads here are sweet, as I say I downloaded it myself a few mins ago?

Try once more if it wont work I will see if theres anything else that will do the same ;)

Have you actually managed to download or install everest? sorry?

Not really  Im still at a miss confused

Direct X is a piece of software which is on (I think) everyones PC with windows.

Just to be certain your doing this correct I will go through it again:-
    > You should open Everest first of all
    > Now click once on the icon which says Computer
    > Now click once on the icon which says Summary
    > Now look down the list till you get to where it says Multimedia
    > Here it should say Audio Adapter - what is next to this should be your sound card I think?

Ive enclosed a screenshot, what you need to tell me is, where the red circle is on the picture, what yours says there if you get me?

To be totaly honest Im unsure about which driver you should be downloading here!

After a search for Intel AC`97 drivers I found this on Intels site:-
I have a different integrated AC`97 compatable board in this but the driver which works for me is the second one down (on the link below) under where it says windows. Version A4.00, next to where it has Windows XP. It will do you no harm to try or you could wait for a more knowledgeable opinion. You can unistall if it dosent work of course at no loss.

Id give it a go anyways ;) Just download install, see if it works, if it dosent go to add/remove programs and get rid.

    Sorry to jump in here.
Did you happen to check that your speakers aren't muted?
Go To START > Control Panel
Click "Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices"
    Click "Sounds and Audio Devices"
Make sure the Mute Checkbox is unchecked
    Click Advanced
Make sure all volume levels are appropiate

If you think you need to install your driver again, you can get a fresh copy of the driver from Dell's web site.
    Dell driver web site.
You computer should have a sticker on it that says
"Service Tag" use this information to look up your computer. You would just download and reinstall the driver for your computer.
