I don't believe this is happening with me!

    Hi!

I just purchased a new PC with Asus P945-E main board, with built in sound card, when you install the driver, SoundMax is also installed.

Anyway, believe it or not, my microphone isn't working. (It's new, and I tested it on another computer and it worked fine)

To be more specific, I noticed that there are two devices, one for recording, and the second is for playback. This wasn't the case with older main boards.
SoundMax won't allow turning the two Microphones on, I mean for playback and recording, it forces me to disable the playback one, and enable the recording one.

Look at the image, you'll see:
    SoundMax HD Audio 0: Playback
    SoundMax HD Audio 1: Recording
Look at the microphone tab, I enabled it in Audio 0, so I had an exclamation mark (yellow). By the way, SoundMax recognized the headphones correctly.

I know this sounds silly, but I'm fed up with it and I really tried out everything, it's a microphone, damn it!

I hate to say this, but it didn't work, no matter what I did, I'll always get two devices, Soundmax Audio HD 0, and SoundMax Audio HD 1

I feel this is the problem, because on older system there was only one device for playback and recording, just wondering...

    Look at this:

    Please help!

padams, you like ASUS, please find me a solution!

    Thanks!

    OK People!

I've tried everything and nothing seems to work.

When I automatically install Audio drivers, SoundMax is installed, while on the CD that came with the motherboard, the PDF manual is for RealTek. Could it be that I have to install RealTek?

The exact version of Motherboard: ASUS P5PL2-E

Have you ran the audio hardware test (one of the last tabs in sounds and audio devices)? That may help detect your microphone, also have you checked that you've plugged it into the correct port (red one)?

Please confirm some details that I don't understand.

If you bought a new pc why did you have to install anything to the motherboard?
What does the supplier have to say about your problem?

I can't find that particular Asus motherboard listed, can you check the info and pc manufacturer details?

Yes I did, and of course the test didn't work, because there is no recording!

I'm so angry because everything is set up properly!
Even the auto detection software (SoundMax) detects my headphones and
microphone when I attach them in the (green) and (red) jacks and says
    they're connected successfully.

    Isn't this depressing.

I'm sure there's something about these two channels installed (Audio 0 and Audio 1)

Please check your computer and see how your audio devices configured, you will have the same device for playback and recording.
I request whoever reads this thread to check it out.

I know that and I'm sorry, but what else could I do?
I could rewrite the post with a different title, isn't this a false duplicate?

I had no choice, this will not happen again.

OK Amjad, now we have the correct motherboard you need to answer the specific questions asked not bombard us with more extraneous information.

    ?
    ?

I have had a look at the manual and it lists two microphone connectors, a rear pink one and a front one via a motherboard connector. Both are stereo.
    page 2-25.

Are you using a stereo pc compatible mike?
Are you using the front or rear connector?

The manual lists two possible types of connection to the front.

Do you know which is enabled?
I can't see a setting in the bios manual to do this, but the manual also seems incomplete.

Have you looked for any audio settings in BIOS ?

Finally have you looked at the ASUS support site? They have a questions forum for this motherboard. (NO audio questions on there at the moment)
Also you can contanct ASUS tech support on the link below.

I'm using the rear connector (red).
I'm using a Genius headset with microphone, shouldn't it be a stereo pc compatible mic?

Why to enable any of them if I was using the rear one?
There is an option in BIOS to enable HA Audio Controller, and it is enabled.

No, I think I will if it is not solved until tomorrow.

    Thank you very much!

    The details are:
I didn't buy the PC, I bought the components and I assembled it.
There is no supplier, only the person who got me the pieces, and he knows nothing about computers, he is a dealer, it's all about trade, it's all about the money! (That was a song, wasn't it)

    ;)

    All useful information, eliminating possibilities.

A stereo mic jack plug as three segments in the tip a mono one has two.

If you disable the high definition (HD) audio in bios what happens when it reverts to AC97?
The HD audio is a newish Intel standard called Azalia.

Fair comment about the front/rear but I didn't know till you told me.

When disabled, no audio output can be found.
No audio devices in "Sounds and Audio Devices", this means AC97 is not installed/enabled?

Does disabling the HD audio also disable the headphones?
I assume these are connected to the output from the sound card, not a socket on the front of the Drive.

Have you got any alternative sound source (output from Ipod, tranny radio ....) you can try in that mike socket.

Have you got anything to work in the line in socket?

It is just possible that the input channel is somehow faulty, there have been a lot of faulty boards about lately.

Oh and well done for building your own, good fun even if there are a few glitches to iron out.

    Hello!

First I'd like to let you know that I just registered on this forum to give you the solution to your problem!! :cool
I found it on another forum, and I felt so happy and reliefed that my microphone is working that I decided to share my happyness! ;)
excuse me for the mistakes I make, I'm not english at all I'm french so I'll try to be clear... does not it show how much I want to help you? It seems like you cannot even sleep at night because of this microphone that makes us crazy!!! :banghead

I know what you're thinking... come on give the solution now!! :D so let's go!

You have to go to the configuration (like the screenshot you posted just above). In the first part, "Sounmax HD audio 0", you need to leave the microphone on "mute" (red point). but right here on the right of the point you have an icon you can click on, so click, and your problems will be resolved!!
Just uncheck the two options, so that it does not use frontal audio anymore, neither boost the microphone.
Just close the settings, make the test, and WAOW WAOW it works !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :clap

Was it ok for you? did you understand everything? did it work?

    :p
