Sorry to say I've been getting quite a few pieces of that kind of mail lately. Tempting to check them out, even if I didn't enter. They usually say my address was chosen at random and ask me to reply to a yahoo or aol address.

Has anyone taken one of these to the bank and tried to cash it?

You could always plead ignorance later. ;)

Yea but there is one problem I can think of BirdBath and that is the N.S.F. charge of Twenty bucks you would have to pay when the sucker bounces.

  7. You could theoretically pay the cheque into a UK bank account, and then if it bounces, you would be entitled to issue court proceedings for the recovery of the money. Under UK law, you can sue on a dishonoured cheque, the cheque itself being the proof that the money is due. Your bank would return an unpaid cheque to you, which could be used as evidence if the case did go to court. That's all assuming you can find someone to sue, and that the company actually exists at the address given.

You would never find that company in a million years! Youd end up having to get a private invesigator!

My niece cashed one once and almost got sent to jail for cashing a bad check and had to pay it back to the bank.

I'm just tryna borrow more money from the bank than I can possibly pay back then have the bank arrested for breaking the law :D

If the check cleared then there is no problem. I'm assuming they gave her the money and then the check came back N.S.F.

I'm wondering if the company would honour the check instead of being exposed.

If I got a cheque like that and thought for a second I could cash it, I would do, regardless of the consequences!

    Maybee dumb! But just me!!!

We have cheque cashing shops here in the uk, you cash cheques instantly and they take a pecentage (usually a big one!).
