Hello again my loves, I have tried reading many of the posts here regarding this matter, my eyes are getting very tired and my eye glasses are not so great for my eyesight these days.
My friend Betty has asked me once more to ask you wonderful people here at Major Geeks for some help, I do hope you don't mind. Betty wants a zip compression software which will exclude something called thumb database files. Apparently windows creates them or some such thing, Betty needs to be able to compress some files but she needs the compressed files to not contain these peculiar thumbs database files.
Would one of you dears please tell me where we can find a free download of such a compression software. Our arts and crafts forums is a voluntary site and we, Betty & myself, do not have the spare money to purchase such software. I have found a few places on the internet where zip compression software can be downloaded free of charge as fully functioning packages but thus far I have not been able to find one which excludes these dreadful thumbs files.
I do hope someone will be able to help Betty and myself, everyone here has been so sweet to me, take care my loves, Marg

I would think that if you click Tools > Folder Options and you enable the viewing of hidden files/folders and disable hiding system files, the when you browse to a folder, it will show the Thumbs file. Then, simply do not select it when adding files to be zipped. This may be more time consuming as you'd have to go thru each individual folder, but it's the only way that I can see... Try these two zip-type programs: http://www.majorgeeks.com/TUGZip_d4670.html TUGZip is my personal favorite.... and try 7Zip: http://www.majorgeeks.com/7-Zip_d4603.html
    Good luck!

Windows creates Thumbs.db files in order to save the information of
"thumbnails" view, in order to display them fast when browsing directories that contain graphics files.
Anyway, why do it the hard way? Why searching for a file compression utility that excludes these files while we can remove them for good?
So, I suggest that you turn this feature off, this way these files will be deleted automatically and won't be generated in the future.
Afterwards, zip any directory you want, and you won't have any Thumbs.db in it.

Look at the image, just put a check mark and you're done!

You can now use any file compression utility you prefer, but I recommend WinRar.

I have passed this knowledge along to Betty, I cannot thank you enough for being so kind once more. Thank you both very much for your excellent help, you are wonderful, now I can get along to our bridge group tonight without worrying about Betty telling me off again.
    God bless you both, Margx
