I just bought an Asus A8n32-sli motherboard- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...9240605?ie=UTF8&qid=1180414858&sr=8-1&seller=
    and I'm thinking about getting this Athlon 64 x2 4800+ http://www.amazon.com/AMD-ADO4800DD...5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1180472285&sr=1-5

Here's what it says about the am2 cpu working on my 939 mobo: "Additionally, the elegant design of the AMD64 architecture allowed for the planning of dual-core processors from the ground up, which means that the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core processor is designed to fit in the same 939-pin infrastructure as single-core processors. All that is required is a BIOS update, saving our partners the costs of redesigns and obsolete inventory."
So, will they work together fine? Will I lose any performance from the cpu not being socket 939? Thanks.

I can't tell if that cpu is socket 939.

Your best bet (seeing as you're a US citizen) is to purchase it from www.newegg.com as the socket for the both the motherboard and the cpu will be displayed.

Click "see more technical details" and it shows all that info. I'm using amazon because I got a big amazon gift card for graduation. Yes, I do wish it was for newegg.

    Ah ok gotcha.

I see, well providing on what it says then apparently yeh - BIOS updates can be tricky though (although I haven't done one for a while).

Your best bet would be to buy an AM2 socket board because then you'll have a more future-proof board. I seriously recommend this.
