An old favourite comedy of mine is coming up soon "Some Like It Hot" - classic. Stars of old: Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, Marilyn Monroe, and cameo with Joe E Brown to name a few. Hope I'm home to catch it.

    Anyone familiar with this movie?

If you want a good laugh, check it out - the overall antics of Tony and Jack crack me up (and for the guys, Marilyn can be pleasing on the eye too). The last comment made by Joe E Brown at the very end of the movie following Jack Lemmon's confession always floors me:Droflmaoroflmao.broflmao

I think we own that movie. My wife and I are a big fans of classic movies - back in the days when plot depended more on good writing and acting rather then how real the exploding whatsit looks . . .

An I like anything with Marilyn in it! ;)

i have seen the film a number of times and always get pleasure form these sort of movies (i'm old enough to remember when they were released) and my wife is a lover of the big spectacle films I.E. Ben Hur,Spatacus,The King and I and so on.:cool

If home, I'm going to tape "Some Like It Hot". Marilyn was great...I quite like her. Good at comedy too ("How to Marry a Millionaire"). There's more to her as a person than meets the eye.

Good to see a couple of MGs who enjoy the classics. Tell your wife I'm her best friend:wave

I like MM in "River of No Return". I can't remember if I bought it in OZ, or from USA.

Thanks for that Baz. Must see if I can get it here.

MM surprised me in "River of No Return"...(Aaah, the old actors - Mitchum - unique stance that guy).

Surprised there's a couple of more MGs who like classics (dad's taste influenced me - goes back to Charlie Chaplin!)

Hey there! Good to see there are a few movie buffs floating around MG!

Woohoo! Found it late night shopping. Thanks again Bazza!

Discussion with some (crim law) friends over drinks later led to an idea of having a "Murder Mystery Dinner Party" using the "Some Like It Hot" theme (ie murder, flapper era, tuxedos). One friend offered their house for the party. We toyed with the idea of putting a twist for extra laughs (ie guys dressed for girls' parts, and the girls dressed for the guys' parts:Droflmao) but scornful, raised eyebrows smothered that idea (would have been a giggle, given most the guys are gym nuts:D)

A crim law friend is going to put together a script based on real murder cases, so only he will know "whodunnit". We're putting together a list of guests using their real characters (eg an investigator friend will be the detective ("Monsieur Pierot"LOL), friends in catering will do French Maid and Butler parts, etc), but we're short on murderous acquaintenances, so I'm guessing my crim law friend will pick either our most innocent or most sinister looking of our friends for the murderer's role:D.

No one wants to be the victim. None of us are into blow up dolls, so I guess our "script writer" will have to sort that out. LOL. Should be a hoot!

This weekend I've got small group of friends coming over to watch "Some Like It Hot" and we'll be sorting out party details. We're planning the Murder party to be a full formal "Roaring Twenties" dress affair, right down to long cigarette holders and candle light:D. The Mystery Murder Party will be a good release from the real life case dramas we deal with. With Winter coming on, we might be lucky enough to have the candle lit party on a cold, windy, stormy night.;)

Also came across a triple pack that included "Ben Hur" (Charlton Heston) and "Troy" (Brad Pitt). So I reckon the girls and I will be organising different evenings to sit back, watch and lust over those two actors. Just love those costumes *cough*

Thanks again guys. You've triggered ideas for some fun nights.:p:drool;):D

    Cheers

Recently saw Monkey Business with Marilyn Monroe and Cary Grant, old black and white. While it isn't the caliber of Some Like It Hot, it was fun to watch them both in a movie I hadn't seen before.

Hey Bugballou, another classics lover! That is an old one but a goody also. Funny thing is that in "Some Like It Hot", Tony Curtis' character (Joe/Josephine) when disguised as the impotent Shell oil millionaire took on a Cary Grant persona to seduce Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe)...funny scene.

    Jack is good as "Daphne":D

Some scenes that really cracked me up:

    • "Daphne" (Lemon) to MM when she enters the upper bed bunk on the train while hiding from the band leader to share a drink: "Yeh! Let's have a party! Spills, thrills, laughs and games. This may turn into a surprise party!"
    • When millionaire septuagenarian (Joe E Brown) is rebuffed by "Daphne" for trying to get fresh:
Brown: "You must be quite a girl!"
      Lemon: "Wanna bet!"
    • Blindfolded musicians playing while Daphne (Lemon) tango dances with the septuagenarian millionaire (Joe E Brown - who thinks he's with a sassy female)roflmao to keep him away from his yacht where Tony Curtis disguised as an oil tycoon is having his glasses steamed while bemoaning his impotence to a seductively sympathetic Marilyn Monroe.:D

The last scene with Lemon and Brown just floors me!roflmao

Yep, nothing like some of the old classics, where the movies relied more on good scripting and acting ability, than multi-million dollar SFX budgets. Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)

Good that you found that ‘Trifecta’ of movies on DVD. :cool

It did! Never thought of that. Amazing how it got passed the censors at the time. But then I guess a lot of the humour must have gone over their heads...I think perhaps Marilyn Monroe must have distracted them:D

I have no idea what is going on in this thread, but it should be noted that the "Some like it hot" spoof "None like it hot" (or whatever) episode of Futurama, featuring Al Gore, is excellent.

LOL Had to giggle at your post. You obviously haven't seen the movie (nor do you appear to be an "old classics movie buff"). Humour is pretty much "in the eye of the beholder". Not sure if the type of humour offered in "Some Like It Hot is to your taste, but I also enjoy the humour in "Futurama":D

Talking about MM, as we were, I came across a "Norma Jeane" 2007 calendar (their spelling ;)) yesterday at our "Office Works" store. Reduced to AUD$0.20, :cool.

Features 12 (duh) photos of a very young MM. Some in colour (Aussie spelling) :D
Going to try and scan them into my PC and add them to my Wallpaper list. Bazza

Have you tried Marilyn Monroe website for Screensavers and Wallpapers?

    http://www.marilynmonroe.com/community/downloads.html

This website has a Marilyn Monroe Picture Gallery - beautiful, tasteful photos (A friend has a framed 4' x 4' MM b/w in his loungeroom, I think the photo was done by Harris(?), limited edition, classical style, quite elegant. Looks great.)

MM certainly was a stunner. Enjoy.

Interesting and kinda thoughtful quotes By Marilyn Monroe:

"No one ever told me I was pretty when I was a little girl. All little girls should be told they are pretty, even if they aren't."

"I have too many fantasies to be a housewife. I guess I am a fantasy."

"I don't mind living in a man's world as long as I can be a woman in it."

"I learned to walk as a baby and I haven't had a lesson since."

"Gee, I never thought I had an effect on people until I was in Korea."

"I don't mind making jokes, but I don't want to look like one."

"I want to grow old without facelifts. I want to have the courage to be loyal to the face I have made."

"With fame, you know, you can read about yourself, somebody else's ideas about you, but what's important is how you feel about yourself--for survival and living day to day with what comes up."

Great movie! Initiated and introduced some skeptical friends to "Some Like It Hot" this weekend.

Friends thoroughly enjoyed it...afterwards, rest of the evening while party planning for the "Murder Mystery" had so many film puns flying around we didn't get much planning done but at least we've identified who will be "playing" what parts for the upcoming party.:D (No one wants to play the victim - might have to be a blow up doll - can you hire them?LOL - "scriptwriter's" problem:D)
