    New to this great site!
This has become my new favorite site. More info than I'll ever be able to absorb.

My orig. post was moved to the Malware thread (can't find it) anyways

I want to start initiating the whole process but as I posted below I can't open any of the links. My IE browser opens to an error message.
Also When I am finally able to open links, do I have to disable my PC-cillian and spyware?

    Running Windows XP
    IE 6
    PC-Cillian

    Problem is this.
I am only able to access the Net through My Documents->My Favorites
When I do get a page to open and I try to open any link, page is unable to open.
Basically I can't open pages in new window and can't access internet through IE.
I am ready to do what it takes. (I look forward to the knowledge to be learned)
    Thanks
    Dean

I'm not sure what you are referring to! You only have two posts and the other is still in the Software Forum where originally posted.

I don't quite follow the explanation of your problem!

Are you saying you cannot run Internet Explorer?

    Thanks for responding Chaslang
    When I boot up
I normally click on the (E icon)-IE to the access the internet
When I do, it opens to an 'unable to open page' error message.

I can only access the internet through Start-My Documents-My favorites
I have to open the address bar through the View-Toolbars Only then can I type in a URL and open new web pages.

When I went to the 'Read me First' under the Malware thread and it has all of the steps to follow for Malware I cant open any of the them to follow through. The error message opens up again in a new window saying 'Unable to open page'.

    It's driving me nuts
I usually can figure out how to maintain an operable PC under most adverse conditions, this one has me beat hence my visit to Majorgeeks.

p.s an updated PC-cillian under full system scan shows nothing

Instead of typing in URLs into IE, try using an IP address.

For example instead of enter http://www.majorgeeks.com use http://208.101.7.150

    Does that work?

The way you are accessing things right now is by using Windows Explorer. You could do this easier by right clicking Start and select Explore which will open it up with the Address bar already showing.

Download and install this: Mozilla Firefox

If necessary the URL for the FireFox download is: http://208.101.7.150/Mozilla_Firefox_d2248.html

Can you browse normally with FireFox?

    Chas
The IP address worked in that it opened up addresses, but not when I click on IE.
Well I DL'd the Mozilla browser and all is good again.
What do ya think happened to my IE?
Some1 else had rec. Firefox to me.

So should I uninstall IE from my PC?
Also Should I run all the Malware procedures?
And is PC-cillian not as good as other A/V's?
    Thanks for the help.

NO! You need it for many sites including Microsoft and IE is an integral part of the OS.

It about the same. Depends on the version and year of comparisons. Things change all the time. An application can be # 1 in a particular month or trial and be dead last in another month or trial.

Run the below procedure however when you get to the BitDefender and Panda online scans, just skip them since they may not work properly wih FireFox. Do all other steps.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy. - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
