I searched the thread and didnt find anything that really pertained to this. Sorry if i missed a thread about it.
    -----------------
I recently got a Lenovo with Vista home premium on it. And of course windows defender is already on it.
I don't trust Windows defender, and i have my reason and horror stories to go with it. Bla Bla Bla.
So..I install AVG 7.5 internet security on it. My idiot self didnt realize that there were 2 firewalls on at the same time. Fixed that problem.

But....after turning off Windows Defender im finding that it didnt help much.
    :/
Im still slow + erratic and windows freezing extremely often. I unistalled AVG and everythings fine...what now?
I love AVG~!!!! It's the only antivirus i acutally like using.
On the site it says computable with Vista.

Can anyon tell me how to unistall Windows Defender and use AVG internet security properly?

Sadly you cannot remove Defender from Vista its built in and those instructions are for XP, where Defender is not a built in security app but an addon.

The only way I know of without re-installing with a custom created Vista install disk with the likes of vLite, which allows you to create a Vista insta;; disk and remove many components to create your own personal prefs as to what to install ( these are perminent removals so you;d have to re-install Vista to get many options back ), is to disable it, to do this try the below,

*just my personal note, I hate using msconfig as a startup manager as its purpose is more troublehooting so I would be inclined to delete startup entries if you are not wanting them, but in this case you may wish to re-enable Defender at some point so this is good option.

vLite is beta software but does work well http://www.majorgeeks.com/vLite_d5387.html BUT using this route you will be re-installing Vista from scratch adn whatever you have on your PC now would need backing up and re-installing... maybe worth exploring for future use if you ever have to re-install Vista again.

Ok well it worked at first.
But now after reinstalling AVG internet security it's slow and lagging as before. I checked all my settings and everything that i don't need is off; windows defender and windows security/firewall etc.

it it possible i wont be able to use AVG? even tho the site says compatible with Vista?

Ok well after starting it up as run as admin in safe mode....the firewall-resident shield and email scanner automatically shut down. Oddly enough so did window explorer. Maybe AVG and windows explorer are having issues?
    -----------------------------
I sent a letter to AVG:

Hi, for the past two weeks ive been having issues with AVG Internet Security.
I have a Vista on a Lenovo comouter. It's new.
At first i ran AVG IS and everything was slow and erratic. Even froze a few times.
I found out there was a problem with Windows Firewal and Windows Defender interfering. So i unistalled AVG IS and in MSCONFIG uncheck Windows Firewall and Windows Defender in both start up and in service.
Everything was fine and dandy until i reinstalled AVG IS.
Even though all of my unused firewalls and antiviruses are not running
my computer is slow and eratic again.
Out of curoisity i ran AVG IS in ADMIN mode on Safe Mode.
Windows Explorer stops respounding and shuts down alot.

Please help me, i love AVG IS, ive had it since it came out on a nother computer. I really dont trust any other company.

Avast is good and fast and Vista Firewall Control is a better firewall and easier to configure than Vista for outgoing communications. This combo works well for me.
