I noticed that the Safari browser is for Windows and I was just wondering if it's worth downloading and trying out. I am currently using Opera as my primary browser and I love it. Is Safari really faster than all the other browsers?

Is that what they are claiming?

Its worth trying, I suppose. But as the fastest browser, hmmmm, no.

This comes from an OS X owner.

I see this is beta for Safari 3.

Downloading the OS X version now, but I'm not expecting a miracle speed increase :)

Just an update, I downloaded it and major geeks came right up in a flash. Not bad so far, I keep playing with it...

I'll test it for a bit. So far, unimpressed, speed wise. My main browser is an arch optimized build of firefox w/ fasterfox on turbo setting. Its considerably faster than this. Of course, its only on Linux :)

My Camino browser is faster than this too...Hmmm.

Played with this for a hour or so, in this beta3 its not quick for me, pages are really slow loading, maybe they not got it working with Vista correctly or its my setup, but it will not be one I would use daily as yet, maybe in a few revisions it maybe better.

The style and layout gives windows users that Apple style and font smoothing is really good.

IE7 and Minefield ( aka Firefox 3 ) are fastest for me.

I've installed it, but can't get it to work for me.
It is not connecting to the Apple startpage. confused
I'm having trouble with all Browsers, except IE6.:cry

Check out my post at http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=128677 for weird happenings about Browsers, including Safari, on my laptop.:( Bazza

So its a none starter then? I actually liked its look and the smooth fonts looked great on LCD, but I couldnt live with slow browsing unless someone has tips to speed it up.

May just keep it for a week and bug some things, I noticed.

@Adryn, if you havnt already give Minefield a go, its Alpha but works good.

    Is there a nix port?

Yes both *nix and OSX ( link in my editline above to ftp )

If anyone else decides to try this Alpha, then usual warnings of a pre-release and an app not even in beta stage applies to possibly not working for you and crashing your PC.

I'll get back to you and let ya know what i think.

You know...I use swiftfox (arch specific compiled version of firefox) with fasterfox...I bet it could be done with windows. It is sooooo fast.

    Safari for Windows (Beta)

    http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/06/12/0120230

Saw this posted on the MajorGeeks homepage as one of the links. :) The thing people are apparently not remembering is, this is a beta product at this point. Of course it has bugs and flaws. :)

Also I've found the Windows beta of 3.0 is not nearly as nice as 2.0 (non beta) on OS X - (yet!) But I am sure they will fix it up with time and make it a lot better. All apps have growing pains and bugs to fix when they first come out. :) Fact of life. I realize you already know this. It's just that people are like "oh my god it has bugs!" Well yeah - it's a beta! lol. :)

Hmm, I might give this try if I feel destructive.LOL Seriously, I'm curious to finally see an Apple product at work, keeping in mind it's a beta.;)

    Re: Safari for Windows (Beta)

My point is that Apple shouldnt open its trap and claim its the fastest browser even while beta. Its slower than Safari 2.

So far to date, the best Safari version is still compiled from source.
