Family Watchdog - how many sex offenders are near you?

I though this was pretty shocking. I put my address into this site to see how many registered sex offenders were in my area and it comes back with 140! I had no idea there were this many sick people out there!!! How many are around you?

I just put in my address and within a 10 block radius of my home, there were 14! registered sex offenders.

Thats really scary.

I was looking at it closer and if you click on some of the dots, you can find out more information on the people. The red ones are people with offenses against children! and a few of them have their pictures up.

I'm sure this would scare a lot of families! (Its scaring me!) I think parents need to be aware of this kind of thing for their children's sake. With all the sick people in the area and on the internet you can never be too careful. I know there are sites out there like NetSmartz411.org for parents to learn ways to keep their kids safer online, but its not everyday you get info like this to actually see convicted fellons living less than a mile away.

I have a dot near my house that brings up 8 names, 5 have pictures, all are offenders of childern, but at the same address??

Come to find out, its a 2-bit flea ridden run down old motel that is housing these banes on society no more than a 1-1/2 miles from my home and my 2 children.

There are a lot of offenders living in my area, and many more that are not discovered. A short time ago, there was a guy who tried to snatch a teen boy out of his front yard. And of course, when I suggested climbing on the roof with my bow, and putting our boy in the front yard as bait, she wouldn't let me. She never lets me have any fun...

 

I find the lists themselves suspect. It is easy to add someone, impossible to remove. They are a function of the politically correctness campain to some extent.

This doesn't mean I think their all bogus, but before you assume their right and your neighbor is a pedofile sex fiend do a little research first.

Cant make my mind up on these sex offender lists,they are talking about the same kind of thing over here.

I dont see what purpose they serve other than to scare parents into not letting thier kids out,even if you know where they live what are you gonna do track thier movements,move house,set up a safe zone furthest away from them for kids to play,KILL THEM,theres just nothing you can do other than worry more.

I'm interested, now you have this information what will you do differently confused

 

I live about a block from an elementary level school. Within a 1000 ft of the school, there are 18 offenders, 37 more if you go as far as a 1/2 mile. Kinda scary. Thing is no one on my street would even think of approaching my home, much less my son, I have a bit of a rep for being a crazy SOB (which I have not done anything to earn but stand up to people) and no one wants to mess with the crazy white dude withthe swords and the big police dog (my german shepard ) Actually, about 1/2 the street thinks I am a cop as I am always running in and out in a uniform and carrying a radio (Emergency Medical Services) I don't encourage this, but don't disabuse them of the notion either. 4 yrs here and no problems (knock on wood) so why mess it up *shrug* Still... kinda pathetic that they let this slime live that close to a school.

I used to subscribe to one from Megan's Law, haven't received any notices since we moved across town. Not that there is none they're everywhere.
Have to take into account (not that it's alright) that some get tagged as such when their girl friend is younger then 18 and they are not. Heard of a married couple that carried that stigma for years because of their ages before. On the other hand to look at some of those pictures, (does this link have pic's) are scary as hell.

 

The justice system for so called "petty" crimes definatly leaves something to be desired. About a year or so ago, i was on my way to church (it was a sunday mornin bout 10 am) and some guy ran up behind me and stole my purse. To make a long story short he got caught and guess what happened to him? all he got was probation, i was disgusted, he admitted to stealing my purse, trying to use my debit/credit cards and all he gets is stinkin probation??? now he's out scott free, when i've got to replace the things he stole and i've got to deal with the fact that im terrified if someones walking just a little to close behind me now and i wont dare wear any purse..anywhere.

I got a rough count of 26 red offenders. Jeez, did not know there were that many f'ing sick freaks in my area! Plus 4 yellow, 5 blue, 3 green and 3 maroon.

Interesting info. Before I saw this post, I did not even bother locking the door most of the time.

Unfortunately, I bet it does scare parents a lot, but I don't think that’s the main purpose. I think they put these things around as a type of public service. The truth is there isn't really anything you can do differently to change the fact so many of these people are out there. There will always be these types of people in the world, so the best thing we can do is educate parents and children that these people really do exist and that sometimes they live right next door. I think education is the best way to keep people safer, whether its online through different safety sites or in your local community with sites like the family watchdog or local law enforcement. The more people know this stuff exists, the better they can protect themselves against it.

 

Exactly, all of the above and more if need be. These people are addicts, twisted ones for sure but never the less people to be aware of and wary of. Just as sure as they molested or raped once they will do it again. That's the reason some have requested to be chemically castrated because they know they will. I also feel these sick bastards do not necessarily have to use their genitals but also objects.
They will kill to silence their victims. That is what the list is about!

 

P.S. There are communities who after finding out these people are in their vicinity will get them out. It has been done.

 

I heard of a state, county, can't remember it was some time ago where they were letting the victims of crime picking the punishment. I'm sure it had to be non-violent, but like robbery, they could have them work for them such as yard work, house painting and they would have to make monetary restitution also. Sounded like a good idea to me. I would work their butt off.

 

I'm all for bringing back chain gangs and work farms. A couple days in a hot box will soften the biggest and baddest.

 

One the other hand though, my friend (who coaches soccer camps) had to watch a video about what you "can and can't do" with kids these days (regarding sexual abuse). The video apparently said that these sick child predators go online and tell each other about camps in their areas that don’t do background checks and fingerprints on the councilors. How sick is it they help each other out so they don’t get caught. Scary....

 

The upside to this is Law Enforcement knows of these sites also and monitor goings on in an effort to stay ahead of anyone looking to pursue such avenues.
Remember, Cops have become just as aggressive in attempts to stop the predators as the predators have become in committing the crimes.
