I've just kicked Norton SystemWorks 2006 off my system because of the crappy incompetent support they run that appears to be from a mud hut located on the east bank of the Gangi river somewhere in India.

So now I'm looking for a 'Real Time' anti Virus program, I have currently installed AVG FREE 7.5 .xxx. and have heard good things about it, also heard good things about both Kaspersky and NOD32.

do any of these 3 have 'Real Time' detection?

In your opinion/experience will any of these conflict with Ad-AWARE, SPY BOT S&D or Zone Alarm?

    Thanks for any help.

    Welcome to Major Geeks.

No AVG will not interfere with the above programs.

Kaspersky and NOD32 are good programs also, just be sure you are running only one (Kaspersky, NOD32 or AVG) at a time.

Don't know about Kaspersky or NOD32.. but AVG free does have 'real time' protection and will not interfere with those programs.

I personally use AVG AntiVirus with ZoneAlarm and Spy Sweeper and I've never had any problems. Personally, I think AVG Free is one of the better antivirus programs available today. Kaspersky is also good but I recommend AVG because it's free. If you want to purchase something then Trend Micro Internet Security would get my vote.

    Bill E,
Outsorcing has led to problems for many businesses, but I'm not sure this is an appropriate way to express it.

I would go with AVG (because it's free) but if you have the bucks go for nod32 it has better detection rates and doesn't slow down your system like kaspersky

-also on a side note nod32 updates very often, and scans very fast, and is lite on your resources.

All I wanted to do was renew an existing subscription with Symantec, I didn't want anything for free, just a response, a Bill and a way to pay.

After a couple of weeks and a couple of emails waiting for a response from support, jumping through the hoops when finally I got a response, being advised eventually that the ONLY solution was to uninstall and reinstall, being assured this was the fix, after a couple of times I realised that these guys didn’t know much more than myself, all names were of Indian origin and I took a guess at the location/address – sorry I didn’t have the Street number of the "office" for you but I figured I for one wouldn’t be needing it, though I admit I experienced an urge to track buggers down and shake the living chapati out of someone.

How and if companies outsource is not my business. When they can’t/don't deliver on support that I had paid for in advance with my originaly purchased 12 month subscription that came in the retail box with the CD then that is my damn business.

I spent a lot of my valuable time trying to sort this out because I did like SystemWorks and had used previous versions since it first came on the market in the ‘90’s always without the hassles reported in the Forums by others users.

But this experience has left me soured and I will go out of my way to steer people away from Symantec products whenever the opportunity is there.

I wouldn't even install a second AV program, let alone a third (They don't play together nicely even if they are not running)

FWIW I have used AVG, ZoneAlarm, AdAware, CCleaner and various other bits and bobs for years now and my machine is a healthy one

Just to add my 2 cents.... I prefer AntiVir over AVG; it's been my experience that it has higher detection rates. But AVG is a bit easier for most people to use and AntiVir can be confusing at times.... Both are free, so cost isn't an issue, and AntiVir will work fine with AdAware and SpyBot and Zone Alarm. Also, just so that you're aware, AdAware does NOT provide any real time active protection; it's for on demand scanning and removing only.....

Right, so it's a good idea to check a company's customer service before you purchase their product. As important, if not more than checking their technical ratings. This can be done with an e-mail, phone call and by checking their website, so see if you actually at any point get a real person who knows what they are talking about. I had to learn this myself the hard way, so I can emppathise with the problems you've had.
