I use Windows XP Home with SP2 & I just recently discovered that 2 of my Icons on the desktop (these are shortcuts) My Pictures & My Favorites open up with Search when I double click on them. All others on the desktop will Open after double clicking.I also notice several of my Subfolders do the same thing. When I right click on these icons I get a list that starts off with Search than Open as well as others below that. All the other Icons on the desktop when I right click them I get Open,Explore Search as well as others. Why is this?I jusst find it a pain each time I want to open one of them I have to go to a right click & click on Open to get it to open Or else it goes to a Search Results Screen....I can live with this but It was ok at one time & I don't know what changed that.....Any help or ideas will be appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

Go to the link below and click on Win XP Fixes then look for Search/Command Prompt Opens When Double Clicking a Folder. That should fix it.

You should get a "confirmation dialog" window or something. Click on the C drive and see if it fixed it.

You download/save the file to your Desktop, double-click on it and it should open a window and you click on Open. That should work.

If not, follow the steps below to do it manually. You are going to be editeing the Registry so set a restore point before you start, just to be safe. ;)
