Basically, it is as organized a scam as there can be. Since I don't talk that much I went with T-Moble pay as you go, and live with the 10 cents/minute charge. Someday there will be a company with reasonable rates and integrity, but now is not that time.

i did not realize they could do that (enforce something not in the contract) but then again we have also been stung.

a few years ago i was away on business for three days during that time a vacuum cleaner sales man called (yes really) he was a rep for the American model KIRBY he gave my wife all the blurb and the demo but as this thing was close to 700bucks she did not want to commit until speaking to me so they made an arrangement to come back in 3 days, then came the sting he said "i have only 20 models in the country at the moment and the next delivery is in 3 months so of you sign this provisional order i can reserve 1 for you and if you decide not to have it i can always sell it on as i have plenty of people waiting".

now i am not saying my wife is dumb and this speech did sound plausible but what she signed was a contract and here in Belgium that is binding there is no cooling of period.

to be honest the KIRBY is a superb piece of kit except for the price which we had to pay.http://www.my-smileys.de/smileys3/2up.gif

How much does it run for say the equivalent service where you are at, Philip?

I am paying here in Austria around $25 (including taxes) for unlimited minutes (Austrian wide), unlimited minutes to there own mobile phone network and 1100 free minutes/month to one of their competition mobile phone networks.

Additionally, I have mobile Internet over the same company but this is a little more expensive. I am paying $67 for a HSDPA connection (up to 7.2Mbps down) with 20GB transfer/month. Additional traffic costs $7 for each 20GB or they will cap the connection to 56k.

I've heard Europe and Oz both have better deals. Bush and his free market economy, FME only works if the players are honest.

Other than cost (all providers are crazy expensive, at least the decent ones), I have never had a problem with Verizon. As far as customer service, I've found them to be the best. Now, granted, that's not a hard thing to do when you look at the competition.

I have Cell, home phone, and Fios through them, and have to say that on the, literally, one or two times I've had probs with service, they have addressed it immediately...and I mean immediately.

It'll take a really good company to make me switch from them.

And no, I don't work for them. :D And yes, I do think cellular providers are theives.

Same here LauraR, have Verizon and have been pleased with it. When we moved last year for the first time ever were dropping calls left and right. They offered to let us out of our contract with no penalty fees, but Dan being with them since early 90's (was GTE back then) plus them putting in a new tower this year decided to wait it out. All is good now again. To lazy to look @ the plan and break it down at the moment but we have 2 phones (Dan is always on his) and it runs around $50 something a mo.

My biggest gripe is the software standardization. The UI they use slows down the phones so much.

The phone selection isn't great either.

This was purely a case of wanting to see if the grass the greener...it wasn't.

Me=clueless. How do you mean the software standardization is your biggest gripe? You mean the menus or offerings on all the phones are the same?

@Darlene...yep...I'm sticking with them. Of course our cell contract is up and both hubby and I want new phones for the discounted rate they offer at end of contract time. They will generally only give us one like that since we do a shared plan. We are going to try and get them to ignore that rule, so we'll see how their customer service goes with that.

We share and both have the update option on the phones. We're not at the same time for some reason though. On the other hand upgrades (for me anyway) are not always for the better. I get used to a phone then have to learn a new one all over, whew - old dogs-new tricks with me
I use that smiley way too much. I seem to live in the State of Confusion
