I would like to start a discussion on ssl certificates. It is the new wave of websites.

    SSL?
    No big deal.

So, you've got end-to-end encryption from client to server. I've already reviewed products that can decrypt SSL/TLS encypted packets. Not to mention that the actual certificates aren't hard to come by. I've setup a CA (certificate authority) before, it wasn't difficult. Also, I've read people complaining how cheap and easy it is to get a cert, so it doesn't say much for your security. It doesn't identify the server you're connecting to as a trustworthy source.

This is the blog. It's more about Firefox's UI on encrypted sites than the actual encryption, but it is enlightening nonetheless.

Also, FWIW, here's the Wikipedia link on TLS:

    Hi,
I'm glad to see this thread. I am having trouble with a couple of my ssl certificates. IE7 shows a certificate error and turns the browser bar red with a warning not to go to the website. It says the certificate is issued to a different website address although it is not.

Mada_milty seeing that you have some experience with ssl if you have a moment would it be possible to take a look for me and see if you can figure out what I'm doing wrong?

The errors show on the employment page and the instant credit page.

    Many thanks in advance,
    Dan

Heh... I've set up a CA once. I wouldn't say I'm really seasoned with the technology.

However, I did notice one small discrepancy between the address on your cert and your actual domain name:

Your site isn't part of the WWW domain, but your cert says it is. Maybe that helps???

I guess the next lgical qustion would be from scratch creating any webpae that would use ssl certificates we should prolbly ask the question what launguage would be best.

I'd have to agree - get into SSL when needed.

For the project you've described to me, you write the pages in HTML, dynamically generated by a server side scripting language such as PHP, or ASP.

Of the two, I would say that ASP is easier to learn. PHP has a more C++ - like syntax which can be confusing, but it is more widely used, and is more portable.

You will also need to be able to query your database with this language. You'll also need to learn SQL, so you can embed your queries in your scripting language.

So how about this we start creating some bogus page on say bed testing andre post script to see what we can improve. We will take it slow and try to get more people involved as we go.
