How much info is given to a website when I go there?

I typed in the letter "F" to go to a page in IE, and everything I have on my PC showed up under the navigation bar (F:desktop/blahblah)

    Can they see that?

your internet browser also doubles as you computer browser i.e. "my computer"

you can go to my computer and type in a website and it will take you there.

You know, them. (Any webpage I go to.)

I figured you guys were safe to talk to because of the metal helmets, acting as cranial shielding.

They shouldn't be able to see your browser history, unless you let the site run some scripts to collect that info for them.

What they should be able to see is the IP address (and they can do a WHOIS on that to find out your approximate location) connecting to their server, and the headers your browser forwards. That shouldn't tell them anything more than what browser/version you're using.

OK guys, I think I know what he means.

Actually, typing "f" in ie is just like invoking the local file:///, which will display all the files locally stored on all drives.

It's just displayed for you, nostyle, so don't worry.

    I think it's legit. I believe he's commenting on some people's over-zealous security setups.

That is exactly what I mean. I don't need someone seeing that list, or having access to any files on it. I use a firewall and do as much as I can to keep tight online, but I am still learning as I go.

The default options in CCleaner will remove that URL history for you. (As long as you run it with your browser closed)
