External Hard Drive Help

I have a 500gb external hard drive that my computer will not read. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and still get the same error message. Any help please? Thank you

When I hooked it up to my laptop I did not get that error message. I did get a message saying it would work slow because I was not using a compatible usb 2.0 port. It's my only usb on my laptop.

Any other suggestions? Where can I find that driver in the original error message posted below?

 

With the drive removed from the USB port, re-install the chipset drivers from your motherboard manufacturer. Visit their web site and download the newest ones available. It wouldn't hurt to visit Windows Upadte either, and see if any new hardware updates are available. After re-doing the chipset software, reboot the PC. Let everything load up, wait for the internal hard drive to stop spinning, then plug in the external. If you still get the error, right click My Computer, click Manage. Double click Storage, double click Disk Management. Scroll thru list of drives 'til you see the 500gb external. Make sure it's initialized and that it's recognized properly. If there's no important data on it (if there is, back it up on another PC first), try repartitioning and reformatting it. If you can't, try all this on a different PC (like your laptop) and then hook it up and it should be OK.....

BTW- some of the text in your screenshot isn't legible. If you could post what the "driver" is that you mentioned, I may be able to work with that...

"Windows - Driver Not Ready
The drive is not ready for use; its door may be open. Please check drive \Device\Harddisk1\DR6 and make sure that a disk is inserted and drive door is closed"
