    Specs:
    AMD A6 processor 3.6ghz
    8gig RAM in 1 stick
    64 bit
    Win10 Home.

This computer freezes, sometimes before the boot sequence, and sometimes later after it has booted. I have to force a shut down to turn it off.
It started off freezing after it had been on a bit (hours), then got a shorter and shorter time span. Now it is almost immediate, or within 2-3 minutes.

    What I have done:
    Did a hardware test........no problems.
Ran a separate memory test.........no probs
    Replaced the memory......no change
Checked the paste, found to be dry, replaced............no change
Used another equivalent power supply.............no change
Lost the wifi, it wouldn't come back with a soft reset, only after being off overnight. It wouldn't come back on after a complete shutdown with power off.

It's not the OS, as it has frozen before getting into the OS.

I realize it is getting on in age, but any help appreciated.

Looking at the specs you linked to, your CPU is an E series not an A series. Ordinarily I'd be suspect of the hard drive in this case.

Tested the HD and it passed several different ones.

Recovery is not going to work as it is not Windows that is the problem. I booted to Linux and it does the same thing.
It is sometimes locking up before loading Windows, so Safe Mode is irrelevant. Event viewer, likewise.
I have checked the MB but can see no burn marks. Could be faulty though.

I assume you mean you tried Live Linux- ??

The tone of your reply does not make me feel like attempting more help.
    Good luck

Have you checked the CPU socket for burn marks?

    Yes.........to live Linux

Yes to checking the CPU for burn marks.....none.

No to the memory test. Have only done the HP diagnostic one, which may only do one pass. The machine does not work long enough for a more comprehensive test. I will replace the memory and see how it goes.

Before you spend money about new ram , you must confirm that your memory is bad or not , you can download this

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/memtest86.html

    using either this

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/active_iso_burner.html

burning to cd/dvd or to run from usb , running for 6 - 8 hours overnight for instance ( 7 test is important )

Memtest86 tech support stated the following:

"Test #7 does block moves that are higher bandwidth than any of the other tests. So memory that can't keep up with the full speed of the MB/CPU will often see errors that do not show up with other tests.

I have another machine with RAM that is good, I will put that in tomorrow and see if it runs OK.

Just to confirm, you physically removed the CPU from the socket and looked at the actual socket?

Yes, it was taken out when I re-applied the paste to the heat sink. Nothing that looked out of the ordinary.

    Well, it's not the RAM.
Put it all back together and just sitting there, it is still functioning hours later.
    But....the wifi is missing again.
I reported this in the first post, and am wondering if the card is failing?
Will hook up via ethernet and see if that makes a difference.

Exact model was in the first post link: Pavilion 23-b010 an all-in-one

Unfortunately, the drivers are for Windows 8 and 8.1 - that's it.

    This is the 8.1 driver
    Ralink Wireless Network Controller Driver
    5.0.29.8105 Rev. A size 30.4 MB, date 16Oct. 2013

Not sure if you can get to the download page from Australia
    https://support.hp.com/us-en/driver...n-one-desktop-pc-series/5295897/model/5296791

At least check if that is the driver you are using.

Looks like it was the Wifi modem card, as it is working perfectly with the ethernet cable plugged in.
