We have a 21-day lockdown. Travel is out. It's a major blow to the economy, but it's working.
    We will survive.

Oh, I have no problem staying in the house. I've been checking in with friends over the phone, watching videos on my tablet, watching my NetFlix DVDs, and reading.

I went out once last week for the first time in more than a week. Most of the grocery shopping is done by my husband but there are a few things that I have to select. Only one of us goes in the store and we hand sanitize when we come out because we've probably touched door handles and money. When we come home, we wash with soap and water. We both wear face masks - now required by our governor if we have to go out for essentials. We take those off if the garage and spray with Lysol before we bring them in the house for washing.

My husband has been used to doing errands every morning but no longer. I said, you can go to the store(s) every 3 days or longer. He goes through milk and bananas so that's why he shops often. Bananas have a very short shelf life. He usually buys 1 - 3 at a time.

I am, like plodr, in Pennsylvania. People seem to be listening, at least in my area. Most are wearing gloves and a good amount are wearing facemasks. Is that actually required? I haven't heard that and it would be near impossible for everyone considering the fact that you can't get them. We got a few from a friend who has them, but that was a couple of days ago. I actually ordered some washable ones from a blanket company who is making them. They won't come for a couple of weeks though.

Grocery stores freak me the hell out, I have to say. That's the weak link. People have to go. They are not very crowded in my area anymore. I do not go on weekends. I'd imagine people venture out more at that time. My husband and I went to Costco...joined just for the purpose of not having to go so often. I won't go back there during this. It's just the two of us and our daughter. They only sell huge amounts of stuff. I don't know how people even store that stuff.

I have zero problem getting in my car and just driving. Sorry, but the idea that you shouldn't do that is ludicrous.

I would count on it being longer. Ours (in PA) started at 2 weeks and is at the moment up to 6 weeks. Part of the problem here though is our country is so huge, people move between states freely, and some states have been very slow to react to this and we still don't have any nationwide direction other than social distancing. We would have probably been in a different place at this point if we had had a stay at home directive from Washington for the whole country like what some of the better state governors have been doing for over a month now.

I was a 40 a day smoker for 30 years. It was impossible to just stop. Then I fell ill with an unknown infection but life threatening. Four days later my temperature fell and suddenly I was out of danger. It hit me that I hadn't had a fag for four days and didn't crave one either. It turned out to be my big chance and I have never had a cigarette since - more than 30 years. You have other conditions Eldon and can do without the added risks of smoking. Maybe this is your chance?

I'm working on a considered essential construction project Monday thru Friday. I haven't gone much of anywhere on weekends for so long I can't remember. I pick what few stores I use by the ones that always have 1 or 2 cars only on the lot. I do carry masks for when needed. Not much changed.

But I have a sub-contractor here that has normally 18-19 people spread out on various jobs. Since our stay-at-home order last week about 10 of their workers have decided they feel safer at home instead of on their jobs.

They have a choice. What bewilders me is the ungodly amount of people, of healthy, working age people have no choice. 6 million unemployed? It has already been known for ages that a large percentage of these workers were living paycheck-to-paycheck! What in the world are they doing now??!!

One food bank in this area went from 65 patrons a week to 170 last week. There's probably a quarter million minimum families that were struggling 2 weeks ago! Where are they now?

    I can't imagine the feeling!

The ugly side of SA's lockdown...

After 12 days more than 17,000 people have been arrested for drinking at taverns (they aren't allowed to open) or in public spaces.
8 people have died in clashes with the police.

Even liberty can be taken too far. Too much of any good thing.

BUT, what if you opened a tavern/pub only to those who were recovered or asymptomatic? But, then you'd need papers... :eek

  10. Eldon

Asymptomatic carriers can still spread the virus.
And drinkers with nothing else to do but drink for 3 weeks will result in more problems.

What am i doing trying to avoid major places like shopping centers during the day.

Little tip if you need to go shopping go at night. When there are less crazy people there. This way you are in and out no waiting in line.

I am not even working currently due to this bull $hit.Which i don't want to deal with work at this point right now.I like to work but when this crap hit the US i new it was going to be a $hit storm.I mean people are going crazy heck the other day i went to buy some peroxide for my ears which i have to clean out every so often other wise my sinus goes crazy.Any who i went to buy some and the store was out of that even.I mean how often do stores run out of peroxide lul.So i had to buy some at Dollar General lol 3% peroxide never saw 3% be for.

I live around in Pennsylvania and there are lot's of cases in Pittsburgh currently low numbers in my area.

I just saw how lows and home depot employees are going crazy right now.

One employee was complaining to the news lol how are they going to help. You want to talk to your HR not the new's the new's would get you most likely canned.

But any way just ranting on how people are going crazy with this whole issue. And it's not just me how about small business owners.

They are considered a home store, so are essential. People need stuff if things need repaired, etc. The home depot here are not just letting people in. You have to wait in line outside and wait until someone leaves.

Frankly, I'd imagine there are a lot of people who would be willing to work right now, so if they don't want to work, they shouldn't.

well you have to realize how crazy people are getting.

We have people going to stores and over spending.I mean in the first 4 weeks people where just mad crazy.Every time some disaster happens people just buy what ever.

Edit: FYI sure fine i get it getting some things done while you are off.But like i said people are over spending and buying stuff that they really don't need.

Well, we are still on lock down, with sensible guide lines - trouble is some people think they know better. Because some places, like London are so crowded, until the lockdown the tubes were crammed despite the warnings, so it is no wonder the fatality rate is so high.
Easter weekend from tomorrow, and some idiots got their caravans out to drive out somewhere, and police are now stopping and turning them back, down the motorways and making the return home. I think arrests might be in line soon, as the police have been given powers to heavily fine them with discretion.
You have probably heard our Prime Minister is in Hospital, but possibly through the worst as he is out of intensive care, today. Some people knock our Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, but we feel he is doing his best, and was working all the time until put in intensive care, despite being quite ill.
Many of our Parks are now selectively closed, as so many idiots laying out sunning themselves, and thinking that the sun is out- we have to go out-idiots.
Like everywhere, it needs to be contained, and whatever any country tries to do,they need time to get control of it and develop vaccines.
I hope everyone keeps lucky, and safe.

I'm the Schrodinger's Cat of "essential" employees my the municipal government job as a Help Desk Director: I am technically allowed to work from home; yet this is physically impossible since I spend most of my day locating and prepping replacement PCs and tablets to replace ones that have crashed for the 600+ other department employees working from home.

The Full-timers under me are all working from home. For now, the temp/contract workers still must come to the office and practice social distancing. Without them present, I'd have to start drafting a few full-timers to come in to help handle the work that cannot be done remotely.

I'm keeping the main office door locked tight as a drum. If a user has to come to the building to pick up a replacement PC, I require they meet the tech in the main lobby at an exact time I set. It's like a "dead drop" in a spy movie: The tech sets the replacement PC on a chair and walks at least ten feet away. The user picks it up and sets the dead one in the same place. Wearing gloves, the tech walks over to get the dead one as the user leaves and sanitizes the sh*t out of it with Clorox wipes before bringing it back in the office.

My biggest pet peeves (the ones where I have to remember HR could pull up whatever response I email to a user and thefore not say what I'm really thinking) are two catagories of users: The ones that ignored the advance warnings about NOT letting your kids play with your work-issued take home PC (one shattered screen and another with makeup smeared all over a keyboard last week, both done by kids), and the at-home workers who have the balls to think they have a God-Given Right to ask us to dash out to Best Buy and get them a 27" monitor ("It'll be easier to see than the small screen on my PC") at the government's expense. Three users dared to ask something like this last week.

I feel a bit less stressed now that I took a minute to rant.

Forgot to say what I'm doing...

The entertainment industry as a whole shut down in the middle of a week-long Broadway run so my last day of theatre work was March 14. I got laid off from my part-time retail job on March 18, and then the store closed for the duration on the 28th. And then my part-time office job had to close when our stay home order began on March 24, but they still pay me 8 hours a week to monitor email and check voicemail from home. Mostly, I'm at the house going through my stuff and getting rid of stuff I can't justify taking with me when I move. I was supposed to move out of Mom's house so we could get it ready to sell at the first of the month, but I got a reprieve with the pandemic. It'll happen pretty soon, though... and it's anybody's guess when I'll have an income again other than unemployment. Supposedly I qualify for the extra $600/week, but so far I've not seen it.

Its like going back in time to the 70's.......

We are cooking at home every night, good wholesome roast dinners, the wife washes the dishes whilst I dry them as we spend those moments actually talking about our day together and what the plans are for tomorrow.
I have time for gardening, growing vegies, mowing the lawn and waving to neighbors through the window just like the Waltons did.
Spending time with the teens who are actually pitching in and helping.
Watching movies and playing board games together (in between cell phone checks)

    I reckon its bliss! :)

Oldtimers disease?.....yes, I call it CRAFT disease (cant remember a f*#cking thing).

Please, in no-way do I intend to make "lite" of this horrible disease, and I feel for those in its peril, but........
I dont have to travel to work anymore (all done online remotely) and battle with wankers in traffic, find a park, put up with bitching office staff etc etc.
Now I wake up and have to travel down the stairs into the study.
I am spending more quality time with the family than I probably ever have, because we are all in this together and I have a duty of care in trying to protect them.

Having said this, sometimes I do miss the old days when we were allowed out, shake hands and hug each other.
When we could have a funeral and grieve for our loved ones with the whole clan around us, without the Police breaking down the doors and counting attendance numbers with little or no respect for our pain.

Welcome to the new world son!

Same here. All the stores that are allowed to be open (supermarkets and hardware stores basically) have a hard limit on the number of people allowed to be inside. Supermarkets regulate this by mandating the use of a shopping cart and then only having X amount of shopping carts available. If they're all in use, you have to wait in line outside. After use the cart goes into a different line to be disinfected.

I have been adhering to the order to stay at home/indoors/no visitors. Only time we go outside is with the little one to give him some exercise. As I said previously, given the symptoms, it was assumed I had covid19, so I was more strict about isolation until I was at least a couple of days free of all the symptoms. Until yesterday evening I was symptom free, but yesterday evening I suddenly got a fever spike (40*C), coughing, headache, nauseous, difficult breathing (and due to having had severe pneumosepsis last year, quite a lot of pain from my lungs). So, not a great day today. My wife's employer (academic hospital) is going to test me, the little one and her tomorrow. If the little one's results are negative, he will relocate to my parents for however long this will last, because my wife now also has to work in the weekends and I simply can't take care of the little guy while I'm this ill. For reference, typing this took me 10 minutes due to lack of concentration and general brain fogginess.

I read a story yesterday that made me angry. There was a march in Richmond, VA because the people want the shelter at home to end. One idiot made the comment, "it is just a cold virus". I've never heard of a cold killing 7% of the world population that have a cold.
Source for the 7% fatality rate around the world: https://ncov2019.live/data

Our numbers in PA and my county still keep climbing despite things being closed since around March 16th. 201 new cases were added on Saturday 11th April, just in my county! We are still to stay at home in PA until at least May 15th.

April 17th, thought I'd jump in. I'm most grateful for having the internet or I'd probably gone nuts by now. I wasn't sane before the virus hit. I live in small-town America and we have been lucky here, no deaths, 2 hospitalized, and same 2 recovered. I've followed the guidelines we have here, stay at home, wash hands, don't touch face. When I have to go out for groceries, I do, but wear a mask, and definitely don't touch my face (the mask reminds me and my glasses). Wiping everything I bring home is not too bad because I live alone, retired lady at 67.

I still take my walks, and ride my bike to get out into the air. Only a population of about 6000, and most are retired or in the local high-security prison. And, I play online a lot, either games or reading different things, especially about nutrition, and health articles. I like to read to find solutions for computer difficulties, so here I am, reading on Major Geeks again today.

I do hope everyone is hangin in there til the virus is under control, it seems to be getting there. I don't think the world is ever going to be the same, but hopefully, the changes will be good ones, I really don't have much more to say other than thank goodness for the internet. It's the only social life I have right now, other than a friend that I talk to pretty much, every day on the phone.
