My HP Desk Jet 4512 finally crapped out this past Monday after several years of intensive scanner use. Except for a very few special occasions, the scanner function is all that is ever used. Yesterday I picked up a new HP DJ 4152e. It appears to be essentially an updated 4512. Following the instructions in the box, I got it unpacked, hooked up, driver downloaded, and the test page printed out. I elected to stay corded instead of wireless or phone connected. So far, I have yet to figure out how to scan. Every instruction I can find online deals only with scanning by phone and the HP operators manual I could find online also only deals with scanning by phone. In addition, my post about this to the HP support forum has gone unanswered. Scanning is important to our operation so it would be a big boon to our operation to get this scanner running. If anyone has ever discovered instructions for HP 4152e scanning via cord, I would greatly appreciate any sharing you would wish to offer. Thanks, K.

    • According to the HP support website, you can scan with your printer using the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device. You can download the app from here (shown under Software and drivers) and follow the steps on this link to set up and use the app. And here step 2.
    • If you prefer to scan without using the app, you can try using the HP Scan software that comes with the full solution driver. - see here.
    • If you still encounter any issues with scanning, you can try resetting the printer by following these steps:
      • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
      • Wait at least 60 seconds.
      • Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
      • Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
      • Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Thank You Maxwell for considering and responding to my post. The remote HP tech couldn't make it work either. It appears - my guess only - that the problem is that I wish to work thru the USB chord on my desk top system instead of wirelessly or via my phone. Easy to assume that means HP can no longer handle Old School. When the HP tech couldn't make it work either, I simply hung up and started the process for a non-HP solution. Sad... HP has been an active part of our business since before our first HP 97. Appreciate your effort. K.

So you had it connected via USB and it was not showing in device manager or settings?
I will agree that HP has gotten horrible. The new AIOs we get at work have settings disabled and require an HP account to set up...trashy.

*** Update *** Our Ricoh scanner is now up and running and we are back in business. HP is free to continuing progressing and evolving without the likes of us dinosaurs holding them back. Onward and Upward HP. Best of Luck! K.
