RE: (4) UPS Shut Down During Outage | Tech Support Forum

Please note that "shotgun" or "cross posting" (posting your problem in multiple forums at the same site, or on multiple sites) can result in conflicting information and confusion for you and for those responding. It also ties up volunteer resources so in that respect, is often frowned upon and is considered poor “forum etiquette”.

It is also considered poor forum etiquette to leave threads hanging. So when your problem is resolved, be sure you revisit each site again and submit a follow-up post with your findings.

I recommend you continue with just the thread at TSF for now, since you have already received help there.

I had no idea that was your policy ... however I always post the solution when I find one. I've always posted on multiple sites when I have a problem and I been able to work through any confusion. Now that I know your policy I won't post here anymore. You can remove this thread if you wish.

Well, for sure, it is not "my" policy. My apologies if I came across that way. Not my intent.

That said, this issue IS typically addressed in either of rules or Terms of Service (ToS) for most sites. And we, as registered users, agree to abide by those rules or ToS when we join these sites. I know, nobody really reads them. And it is common practice, even if unwritten, across the entire Internet - as one can see with the help of Google - forum etiquette.

And I am not trying to dissuade you or anyone else from posting here, or anywhere else. And for sure, if no help is obtained at one site after a reasonable amount of time, then absolutely post at another site. Just not multiple sites at once.

What's a reasonable amount of time? It varies depending on the site, complexity of the problem, and time of day - among other things. But I would say no response in one or two days, maybe longer if a weekend or holiday, seems reasonable. It is important to remember that all helpers on these forums are volunteers who donate their spare time, who are scattered around the world in all time zones, and who have other work, school, family and other personal commitments that come first. None are paid employees of the sites.

I see no reason to remove this thread (I don't have that power anyway). Since it is already here, others searching for a solution to a similar problem may stumble upon it and find their way back to the other thread.

    Thanks again.

Wellsir ... I just want to let folks here know I found that the unit is still under warranty so I am going to file a claim.

Thanks for reading my post. :D

New update ... I found there is a little catch with CP warranty ... I have to pay for shipping both ways, and that would exceed the cost of a new battery, so my best option is a replacement.

Just wanted to let folks know.

UPDATE: Wellsir ... I had to come back and update my situation. First of all I was wrong about the shipping ... I found a more detailed copy of the warranty and it's shipping one way. But that became a mute point because I didn't have to ship the unit back at all. Cyberpower ask me to destroy the unit, and send photos that it was disabled. They send a replacement and the ETA is 22 Feb

I like to also mention that I tried to find a replacement battery for this unit and there isn't one. Might be because the unit is still under warranty.

Wow, 22 Feb suggests express shipping. That's good.

I hope they reset your warrant start time along with the new unit.

Oh, as a reminder, just in case it is really cold outside on the day of delivery - let the UPS acclimate to your indoor temperature before applying power. Sometimes, very cold objects brought into a warm house can have condensation form. Waiting 30 minutes or so will allow any moisture to evaporate off before condensing into droplets.

Thanks ... getting any electronics during cold weather and letting it get room temp is standard procedure with me. Same with my cordless tools batteries I always let them get room temp before recharging.

Great. While many people already know this, I have learned over the years this practice is not common knowledge. So I try to mention it as a reminder, if nothing else.
