Comparison of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, and Safari: Based on speed, features, and overall performance which one do you like best?

PC mag offers an analysis (Beware, they want your email address) but I want to hear from "the trenches" which one you prefer and why?

Trying to decide which one to keep. I feel like several have gotten bloated and exploitive. I like to hear thoughts other than my own.

I cannot speak for other browsers, but I like Opera. It has a free VPN, with just a few countries to select from. The only downside is that unlike a desktop VPN, it doesn't bypass the main Google search page. So often what happens is, you are forced to keep doing those annoying, 'click all buses' or whatever - verification thing, and every single time you do a new search, it comes back.

But what I love about Opera too is its ad blocking. There's a few forums I go on, and I think the people in charge suck at web design, because they lack the common sense to stick their ads in a place that's not gonna be disruptive to your typing.

For example, there's one where they put a goddamn ad right over the box where you type a message. Even if you close it, another one pops up, like if you're using Chrome. You can scroll down, but then you could accidentally click on it.

I understand the whole point of ads is to generate money for one's site, which is why YouTube is spam-o-rama with them too. But talk about nippy. You cannot even watch a live stream in peace as they interrupt your viewing pleasure.

A lot of free VPNs are unreliable because they disconnect too much. Granted, that could be due to your signal. I have no idea. But it's a security risk if you're trying to hide who your ISP is.

I am now using the Brave browser. I used Vivaldi for a long time, but switched because each new version introduced new bugs and problems.

So yet, there have been no major issues with Brave. It is a rock-solid browser. The only feature I miss over Vivaldi are the tab customization options.

For those who used Opera through Version 12, like me, Vivaldi is the most similar, thanks to the CEO of both, Jon von Tetzchner.
The customization options and support for those who prefer keyboard shortcuts are unlike any other browser.
As for ad blocking, I believe that the uBlock Origin extension would be far better than any browser's built-in feature.

I've been a loyal Firefox users since the Firebird days. I don't particularly like the new interface or configuration. I prefer the traditional OK/Cancel interface, but all mainstream browsers have gone down that route unfortunately. Works on Windows, FreeBSD and Linux, so I have a fairly consistent experience on any platform.

I think Google Chrome is the best browser for 2024. I have been using it for many many years.

I love Brave for it's privacy when using Duck Duck Go as it's search Engine. It does have, at least, one drawback, as when I attempt to go to a certain news webpage, the webpage does not like Brave's ad blocking and, while it does show headlines, refuses to show content. To see the webpage fully, I must go to another browser and the sign in to the webpage... ugh! I would assume other webpages act similarly.
