Lost Win11 Admin Password - How Do I Recover

I've lost the password to the admin profile on my Windows 11 PC. I do not have a password recovery disk and am not able to do anything which requires admin approval. I've tried to reset the password but the wizard requires the password recovery disk. I have my Microsoft Account password but can't find anything in that account which would allow me to reset the local PC account password.

Is there a relatively painless way to recover the password or create a new admin profile??

No, not of which I am aware. This is one of those things that, despite all of the warnings, one should always write down and keep in a safe place...or make so easily memorable that one cannot possibly forget it. Me, I don't trust my memory with such things: too many passwords and account names over the years, and I have a notebook close at hand.

(Or at least I thought I did. Dammit.)

 

New account: To access the command prompt when booting Windows 11, hold down the Shift key while selecting "Restart" from the login screen, which will bring you to the Advanced Startup Options menu where you can choose "Command Prompt"; you can also access this menu by rapidly pressing the F11 key during startup on some systems.
From CMD type:
net user /add [username] [password]
then add that user to admins:
net localgroup administrators [username] /add

Or enable the local Admin account by typing:
net user administrator /active:yes
If you weren't already using the 'real' admin account.
