    Hi all.
I went on Dell's website and allowed them to 'update' my PC.
    Latest bios, drivers, etc.
One of those drivers was a Realtek Network Adapter driver.
Since then my ethernet internet disconnects for around 15-20 seconds, then comes back on for 1 - 4 minutes and goes around in a loop.
I booted this morning and didn't launch anything that would need the internet and it stayed connected.
As soon as I launched a browser it cut of for it's usual seconds then came back on and is doing the same thing.
I've rolled back the driver but to no avail.
Even if I manage to fix it in the meantime (yeah right) I would be interested to know what causes this strange behaviour.
    Cheers

Edit: I attempted a system restore, waited the requisite amount of time with coffee and YouTube.
Finally got logged back in, only to be met with a message that it had failed, likely due to antivirus. Grrr.
Thing is, I haven't had an issue since?
Is it usual to require a reboot after rolling back a driver?

Usual? No. Within the realm of possibility? Sure. A reboot can clean up a number of irritations, and this just might have been one of those things.

    Thanks for the reply.
    Unfortunately it's back.
I spent several hours yesterday without a problem.
This morning I have a similar issue!

    Update.
Tried system restore again but the only option was to put the machine back to the time before I tried system restore yesterday.
All other restore points had gone.
I turned off the anti virus but system restore failed again.
Now there are no restore points!
I've just put a new RJ45 plug on my ethernet cable as the wire had been pushed against the back of the cupboard.
They're a tad brittle so I thought maybe one of the wires may have snapped.
All seems good so far, but I said that last time.
Incidentally, after plugging the ethernet cable back in, pages in the browser were loading real slow.
All seems ok now and I'm getting my expected speed on a test, surely putting a new plug on wouldn't upset it?
    Computers are bizarre!

    They certainly can be!

    Yet more coincidence.
On the 12th my isp had an outage.
The installation of the driver may have been no consequence after all. I guess I’ll have to wait and see.

Did you have a specific reason to update drivers, and bios? If not, don't fix what isn't broken has always been my advice. I know it is too late for you, but for anyone else that reads this.

I agree and that is my usual stance.
That said, yes, I was having trouble seeing my iPhone on the pc so I just tried different things.
Plus I had the internet disconnect occasionally. I used Dell website as they had updates.
turns out I couldn’t see my iphone because I hadn’t got the latest Apple drivers
As for the internet, could have been the RJ45 but equally could have been my isp having grief.
Intermittent is the problem. So hard to sort out.
