This is primarily for all of the "old timers" that may or may not be lurking somewhere in the shadows of Jim and Tim's cellar at MG. Please come out and let us know that you still exist. Post a short blurb about what life has brought to you in the last few years and by doing so understand that you have been missed. I have my favorites that I would love to hear from (although many have moved to other pastures in the electronic medium) but I am not asking to limit this thread. Anyone can participate but I am curious as to which "old timers" still visit and what they are up to. If you are a member of the "6 years or older club" and know or have contact with other "old timers" that used to frequent the board then please invite them back for a reunion of sorts. It would be great to hear from them. I'll start the ball rolling and see if it gathers some moss or not....

I've recently changed my profession from dancing in the sky on the I-beams to building and installing PC's and printers for a local company. I am still looking to finish my AAS in Network Administration and the target date is Fall of this year for that milestone. It has been a long journey but with the new career change lies new prospects. I love MG and have been here since 2002. Never wish to leave here although I do take a sabbatical or two from time to time. Oh and I recently (Feb. 15th) became a grandfather for the first time. Our grandson was born weighing 10 lbs. 11 oz. and the NFL started bidding for his draft choice 2 days after he was born :) although we think he's going to be a hockey player instead!

Now there's the start, don't let this die. Please, even if you are not one of the year of 2002 rookies, add your post here to let everyone know what you are doing now days......

    Yours,
    Jack aka Wraith......

    Hi Jack

Oh thought I had replied to this thread, ooops must not have :(

Oh and new for me is I changed my forum user name from Halo to DavidGP (which is my name and back initials), I like you have changed profession but dont know if you know or not as cannot remember if I had mentioned it openly, some know what I do now and some dont.

But 6yrs ago I decided that digital imaging was going to kill the film based photographic industry so I made the hard decision to leave (Kodak/Boots) to try something different, and now I'm in medical research in Ophthalmology in the field of ARMD and Diabetes, using imaging to diagnose those eye conditions, so involved with multiple research projects from trials, to looking into computing based options to automatically detect disease.

Also still deal with Microsoft alot as a Microsoft MVP in Windows area.

Congrats on becoming a grandfather :) and good luck with the AAS, and you liking the change from construction to building PCs?

Some old-timers still hang out here from the 2002 era, but alot have moved on, some though do still pop in at times (Star17, CindySnoopy etc)

Halo! Or do I need to call you David now? Thank you for restoring my faith that I am not the only old-timer left on MG (other than those old-time owners that is). I know that Barry (Phantom) and Kodo are still around as I do see that they post from time to time but I really don't know who else is still here. Is Adrenalyne still lurking here? I used to follow his blog but he has since abandoned it. Same with Lev as she also had a blog but has since let it go by the wayside. Most of all I miss seeing Theresa and Chris post here as much as they used to as well as Cindy and many, many others. I guess I must be reminiscing too much.

Glad to hear that your new career choice is working for you. I do remember that you had mentioned trying a new tact on life as you were afraid of what the digital world was going to mean for your chosen profession. Looks as if you have made a good choice and an almost perfect fit for you. I do remember talking to you on the forums while my family went through some mighty tough times (my wife's diagnosis, my sister's death). You and many others here were basically my lifeline in a time where I dearly needed friendly support and for that I am eternally grateful. I hope to hear from others in this thread and to get back in touch with some that I miss so dearly.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond. I sincerely am glad to hook up with you again David!

    Yours,
    Jack

I missed this thread somehow, but i guess i qualify for the six years or longer part :) Things are about the same, still doing tech support type stuff. Recently started doing video production for a mixed martial arts company, which basiculy puts all sound/lighting/video for our events in my hands. Not much other then that.

I'm still kickin', Jack. Guess I missed this thread, too. One of the sign of either being very busy, just older than dirt.:(
Not that much has changed recently in my rather mundane existence.

Well Jack you can call me anything you like, Halo or David is fine, but my name is actually David so thats good.....Phantom aka Barry is on the forum a lot, kodo (Jim) is on and off, Adrenalyne is or has been very busy with college work for a degree so time is not sparing.

Lev dunno as she disappeared and has not been back but I imagine she is fine.

Teresa and Chris I do email at times and they are OK last I know busy as hell with various projects and you know where Chris works and what he does to know he is vastly busy all the time!!!

Yeah my chose of career was good and only getting better but busier by the month|!

Ignore as likely to be banned within a month for arrogance as for potential greatness that does not even measure up with Heliopolis!

Zero post count is imminent me thinks as a GOD and all POWERFUL and just as I maybe GREAT!

    Hi Jack,

David emailed me about this thread, thought I'd take a minute and respond. Yes as he said just too much going on right now to have any time for message boards, and frankly they've kind of lost their usefullness to me. Do miss many of the '02 crew (Perino, Snoopy, Eric, Rivergod, Goldfish, Kodo, Horai, Bluesman, DarkHeart, IceMan, Evc, Scouse, Fw190, Naz, Grafix, Gaz, Matacumbie, SwatShark, Rumple, et al) but especially miss GT. It was a really good bunch of folks and I had suggested to Abby to possibly contact as many as she could find to get some sort of reunion initiated, but we've got so much going on right now time just wasn't there for it. Perhaps when time settles a bit we'll try again. Actually I do remember several popped in at random about 3 or 4 years ago and the thread went to 6 or 7 pages of utter hilarity.:-D

MA is in Florida now, and even though he's only a couple hours away we've just not had time to meet up with him. We'd really like to, and will try to as soon as possible. CP, however, I have NO desire to meet ;) :-D

Do see David and Phantom holding up the "old-guy" banner, so hi to both. And Barry, I'm out of the Girl Scout Cookie business for good!;)

As far as my doings are concerned, two more shuttle flights and the program is over. Already gutting Discovery like a fish to ready it for public display. All three orbiters will be in museums after flight status and have to remove all the reactive contents so people don't get a buzz when they see them. My time/assignments will be split among Shuttle Launch support, Space Station ops, Air Force launch support, the next-generation of rockets/spacecraft program (as soon as Congress tells us what to do we'll do it-likely will be 2016 or so before an American rides an American rocket to orbit again) and some work for the Navy, so plenty going on. Also in the process of buying a house and training for a pilots license (can't get anywhere fast enough in a car anymore!).

Congrats on the grandbaby and new career path; hope it brings the happy and the money you deserve. And thinks for thinking of Teresa and myself, I'm sure she'll pop in soon too. Her plate's been quite full too, with good and bad, but I'll let her fill in the details when she has time.

Take care Jack, and best wishes to everyone here.

How does one find out if they're qualified as an old timer? Though I suppose if you don't remember, you possibly qualify.

I know I shouldn't be here, but was reading and saw where the "old-timers" said they had overlooked this thread. :wave
Could it possibly have been an error by titling it "Updates"?:confused
Maybe "A call to the older members" would have caught their failing eyesight better.:-D:-D

You ALL better know I'm joking.

Too many... See... I was trying to start a clone army to start my own evil republic... but then I got lazy. Plus they're trying to Repo the Deathstar... so... I'm done.

Nearly died a couple of times this year, but evil never dies. Nearly killed several other people this year... but I didn't have an alibi so I refrained. And I play entirely too much WoW. My life is not the greatest at the moment, so, I try to be funny instead. If I fail, that's only because I suck at it, so laugh anyway. Nod and smile.

I could give an entirely serious update... but it's all unhappy and I don't want to drag anyone down. If I fake the up, maybe I can GET up. So, perhaps you can all offer up some happy things for me to live vicariously through? That would be nice.

I am not one of the "old timers" but have been here for a few years. After the company I was working for closed, I went to school (yes, at my age) for two years and got my degree in Computer Support Technician. I then worked for six months back at my original career, but with a new company. I am once again unemployed. Currently I am studying, reviewing, studying more to get my A+ cert., so have been here more often going through the threads, seeing if I know the correct answers for helping people.
Good to hear from you Jack and others I have missed on here. Guess life takes over sometimes. Nice to catch up once in a while.

Hey guys. Long time between IP traces,;) Star17 and Abby. Hey Wenchie
Since 02, my wife and I have had 3 kids. Swatshark came over to AU in 2004 to see us with his girlfriend.
In 2011 my 1yo daughter (No 3), was diagnosed with leigh's disease, and I've been her Carer ever since. They gave her 2 years to live, but she'll be 15 in a few days, so F the doctors.
I got the see Swatshark again in 2015 when we visited the US and Canada. He had distanced himself from me after he got married, which was his wife doing he said. We had a coffee and talked about the old days.
But now comes the bad news.
Swatshark got covid in 2021? and unfortunately, it took his life. I don't know anymore, but he is sorely missed.

Wow, haven't thought about him for a while, brings a tear to the eye..

I think I took a break from this site around 2022. Back now, but I am not as much into computers and such these days. Changed jobs a year or so ago and may be changing jobs again in a few months. Kinda scary making a major job change in your 50's... But you gotta do what you have to do!

    Hell of a kick.

Damn. Hell of a time ago. I was a teen back then. Even in 2011, I was still in uni. So, safe to say life's changed. It is a shame a lot of people don't come to forums any more. I try to check in here every so often, but have to be honest, usually when I get home from work I don't feel like using the pc any longer.

Anyways, don't be a stranger yourself.

Damn, Jack, great idea to holler at all the old-timer lurkers. Me, I just pop in now and then. Retired from catchin' babies 22 years ago and became a golf nut again. Finally got my handicap down to 5 and hung up the sticks for good. Now I just chase SHEWHOMUSTBEOBEYED (my darling Lynne) around the house, as usual. Gave up trying to keep up with ol' buddy Kodo and just mainly lurk. Sure am enjoying my PS5 and occasional trips to visit my money at the casinos in Lake Charles. Will turn 85 in a couple of months. Staying busy with family and grandkids.
