There is a problem with Lenovo and trackpads. The internet is full of people inquiring about this but starting a few years ago peoples trackpads have stopped working and now mine has joined the mix. Some people have found roundabout ways to fix but none of them have worked for me.

Device Manager shows the device as not starting. Driver is up to date. I went through the gauntlet of every diagnostic I could imagine including re-installing every driver on the machine, finding every Lenovo and Windows touchpad driver I could find and installing them. I cracked it open and checked cable connections. FInally, I re-installed a fresh installation of Windows 11. I then re-installed all drivers and BIOS. It still will not work.

The model is the Lenovo Ideapad S340-15IWL with an Intel I5-8565U and Windows 11 Pro. This does not seem to be attached to any specific Windows update. The trackpad is an Alps Technology 1.0.0.2.

Any ideas on what I could try? Given that so many people are having this issue I doubt the touchpad has gone bad. It does have a toggle at F6 but that doesn't do anything.

I am trying to sell this machine so I want to get it fixed. I personally did not mind as I hate trackpads and use a mouse. But, it will damage resell value. Anything you can think of or if you have had this issue, I would appreciate it. The last event for this device is Device Not Started.

Considering you've eliminated software, replacing the touchpad with a known good one is all that's left...

I am 99.9% sure it is not the hardware. Too many people are having this issue and it iisn't just Lenovo. It seems to be laptops that came with Win 10 that later updated to Win 11. It may be something to do with power saving mode. Some people have a power saving tab in Device Manager for their trackpad and when they remove it from that process, it seems to fix the issue. Mine does not have that. In fact, I do not recall ever seeing it on Device Manager which seems to be worthless nowadays. Every time I see the yellow box and there is a driver issue it tells me the driver is correctly installed an up to date.
