Multiple computer issues, but trying to load and run AdwCleaner, it hangs and says api-ms-win-core-com-l1-1-0.dll is missing. Reloading didn't help. Suggestions? Win 7 Pro Optiplex 7010. I have not run automatic updates, due to fear that MS will attempt to add 3 or 4 to my Win 7. Hard to believe a search for that file does not show up here on MG.. at all!?!
Thx in advance for the help.

Have you done the basics, such as running SFC and/or DISM?

got sfc running. Does DISM work for Windows 7 Pro?

What sort of "multiple" issues are you having? What leads you to think it might be malware? What brought you to the point of installing AdwCleaner?

SFC says Verification 100%. Observed problems? I tried updating drivers, with IOBit. Malwarebytes said "Don't". I did anyway. New drivers appeared to be a problem, then BSOD on one of their side program scans! Issues with FireFox (115.23.1esr 64 bit) and a favorite forum that can no longer be accessed. I don't believe their "load Chrome" suggestion will fly on Win 7 Pro. Sluggish in general, multiple hangs. The disk access light comes on for 10 minutes or longer, and everything drops to a snails pace. I don't think it is the MWB scanning. With a few tabs open, if I go back to one, it won't load. Various programs like Excel, stop running. Just a BUNCH of issues. Trying to use Teams, but it tells me the Logitech camera (or drivers) isn't correct. Tried loading from Logitech, and the "camera A/V test" worked great for about 15 seconds.. went black, then BSOD again! Edit: Teams failed to have any video in a chat. So went to Zoom.. before I was officially signed on, I could see the video, and audio was bi-directional.. but then when I signed up for Zoom, and did the camera test.. it crashed.

Should I proceed with AdwCleaner? or what is the next step?

Are all of these recent, since your drivers update, or were there problems beforehand?

Sorry, but I am calling it quits for tonight as 3 A.M. comes awful early. I wish you the best of luck.

No problem, I had to get something to eat. No, the problems seem to have started maybe 2 months back.. but it was functioning to a degree. Skype had worked fine, for text or for video chats. The new Teams was getting sorted, but then all of a sudden it didn't like my camera (or drivers). The forum is RCGroups, and various members complained of the same problem using FireFox. So the site, may have allowed ads, with some software that cause a hang, if someone has on a adblocker.. but supposedly Chrome works, and FF used to, until that change. But there are multiple other aspects of FF that are showing up as very slow, or photos "not rendering" properly, etc. Teams had said they would not support Win 7.. but it had been working.. unless they just tightened the screws (???). I'm not into coding, I'm just a user who is comfortable running scans. I had to look up SFC.. to remember what it was, and to do a scan. Indeed there may be multiple problems.. but I've got to start somewhere! Thanks for the help!

Sorry to say, but it might simply be time to replace your machine, your OS, or both. More and more companies are ending development and support for Windows 7, and that looks like what you and those "various members" are seeing. And yes, some sites prefer that you not run adblockers as that is how many free sites pay for their operations.

It might simply be time to bite the bullet and update.

Wait?... Isn't this Major Geeks?? Where the volunteers help fix the problems? I've seen a degree of Gen Z (?) coding, on Veterans admin sites for instance, which is just absolutely terrible. As if they don't know which end of the hammer does what. The US may be coming unglued.. FOR REAL. I've lived thru the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam, being the only elected official not on the take, and running my own consulting business. Pretty sure Win 7 won't be the end of the world. But to park it, means my CAD library and other software no longer work.. and I'm faced with another learning curve (ie, finding all the things which others already know I'll hate... about MS, Win 10, 11.. ad infinitum.)

But on previous occasions, whether my XP laptop, or a Vista POS, or this Win 7, I got answers here, found problems in a logical scan/diagnostic/fix process, and hope to do the same again.

Skype has been uninstalled, it worked fine, until they axed it.
Teams SAID they would not support Win 7, so it may have just been demoted from my chat list.
Zoom may or may not work.. I can't imagine my web cam being at fault, but a refund from IOBit for their Driver loader that didn't work, has ONE thing fixed.
I can painfully access RCGroups on my equally obnoxious iphone. Like doing brain surgery thru a micro-scope.

WANTING... to run the usual "Do this first list".. my SFC balked at sfc /scanfile=api-ms-win-core-com-l1-1-0.dll, likely because I don't have auto updates turned on(?). Is there a direct way to load that DLL to proceed? [Edit add:] The error "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation" typically occurs when the System File Checker (SFC) tool fails to run properly, often due to issues with the Windows Modules Installer service or corrupted system files. To resolve this, you can try running the SFC command in Safe Mode or ensure that the Windows Modules Installer service is enabled and running. (I'll try it in Safe Mode).

I tossed a dart, and did load ZHPCleaner, which found a few minor issues in browser profile and Explorer, and deleted them. I may just need a good program to clean out the junk, or do a tune-up. I had run Tweaking.com.. but only the freebie version. Problem is, when I purchase from someone like IOBit, and it does a BSOD.. I'm hesitant just to load up "anything" to try.

This machine does work! I'm not doing space launches! FOUR PROCESSORS?? I'll just unplug it from the internet, if required, and find a junk laptop at the pawn shop. Linux may be an option.. but in reality, I fully expect the END to arrive, before I'd get that sorted out!

And THAT'S why I'm here on MG... hoping to find some valid help/suggestions, and ways to run some genuine scans!

You asked for help. I offered options and opinions. If you choose not to accept what's offered, that's your choice. Do not blame the one person who responded to your request because what was offered did not meet your desires.

All machinery eventually fails. All software will eventually become outdated and unusable. Time doesn't care about your learning curve.

If your hardware is still useful and necessary to your desired software, then bite the bullet: reinstall Windows 7 and your required software...and get something else to go online with. That is my considered opinion as to what is the best fix for your computer's problems. You do not have to accept it.

Please, have a good evening and weekend.
