Just posting to brag on this old unit used since 2016 with Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit OS. It just keeps on ticking, doing all I need it to do. Essential software includes a media player, pdf reader, ESR Firefox and last Win 7 supported Edge browsers, Panda AV, and a drive cleaner. I dust out the enclosure and fans annually. My favorite convenience software consist of Screenshoter, 7+ Taskbar Tweaker, Word Web, Color Veil, uBlockOrigin browser extension, and Digital Clock 4.7.9

And that's it. Maybe upgrade to 11 in the future if no alternative.

You might want to check Why Not 11 .. I doubt you hit any of the prerequisites for 11.

I would not consider running Win 11 on a 32 bit computer with a max usable RAM of 4GB. You'd be frustrated by the slowness of the unit. Keep the Win 7 on it and use that.

Agree with you on 11, by upgrade I meant to another desktop with 11 installed. Thanks for the reminders.

With the little software you described, you could install a good Linux distro. There are many that try to look and function like Windows.. Zorin, Linuxfx , PopOS , Winux Andunios Check that your processor can run 64bit OS.

I've had luck with refurbs when there was a MS certified refurbisher in our area. I'd never buy a refurbished laptop. I've purchased two desktop computers when they were still in business.

In fact I'm still using a Dell Optiplex 745 that was new in 2006 or 2007. It came with XP but I got a DVD with Windows 7 Pro and a key to upgrade. I had typed instruction as to what I had to do. It was very clear cut and the computer had a warranty. I have Office and WordPerfect X6 on it which I use to write monthly reports. I use Excel to keep track of my high school's graduation class database. I checked and malwarebytes was updated to the latest version this morning.
