I have several computers of varying OS and age. Ads confront me daily about obsolete drivers and this or that software will update them for me. Typically at a subscription price. These do not seem to pop up on my Linux work stations. My whole life I have been called excessively frugal. But gosh darn it some things I am just not going pay for. Especially "do I really need it " software. At the same time I do not want to miss out on performance. I would appreciate any guidance offered. DC

Uninstall whatever is popping up and just go to the manufacture's website and get all the drivers you need for FREE.

You should not be getting popup ads on your computers! Download and scan with Malwarebytes.
https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/malwarebytes_anti_malware.html for Win 7 and newer. It is no longer supported on anything older than 7.
It will weed out all the PUPs (potentially unwanted programs) and things that are causing popups. You allow MBAM to quarantine them and in a week or so if nothing appears broken, you can allow MBAM to completely remove them from your system.

MBAM's download is the paid version but you don't have to pay. In 1 or 2 weeks, it will switch to a free version without real time protection. You can continue to use it free. If you surf a lot and go to dodgy sites and download all kinds of things, then manually run an MBAM scan every 3 or 4 days. If you don't do much on the computer, it is okay to run it every 2 or 3 weeks.

As far as drivers - if it ain't broke, don't fix it! I can't remember the last time I updated a driver.
