    AMD Ryzen7 1700_MSI B350 Gaming Mobo_16Gb DDR4 2133_GTX550GPU_Win7 64_Linux I recently installed Linux upgrade to 22 and upgraded the GPU to a MSI Geforce RTX 3060 ti 8gb. Power supply Corsair CT750M

The fans are turning on the cpu and gpu and system. No video .... no system beep. Failing power supply? The gpu? Mobo? Any ideas ... please post. Thanks for reading my post.

Couple of things I'm going to try ... first put old gpu back and see what happens ... if nothing then try a working power supply and see what happens ... I'll update once I try this.

Waiting to hear what happened with the 2nd PSU. In the meantime, did it work fine before you upgraded to Linux 22? And before that graphics card?

Are you sure you attached all the necessary power cables to the card?

@Xo ... that is my ps in the link ... 750 isn't enough?
@Di ... it was working when I upgraded linux to 22 and it was working when I installed the gpu ... I was working to get X Plane 10 to get linux to see my joysticks. I double checked the power cables to the card.
It the holiday and I'm the cook for the day, but once I get that done I will do the swap and report back tonight.

I did a quick check swapping out the video card with the old one ... no change.

Wellsir ... in between cooking I pulled out the ps from my second rig ... raidmax RX-730ss 730w ... to my surprise it doesn't have a power hook up for the RTX card. I can't believe it. So I don't have a working ps to check the other.

Oh oh ... I just realized something .... I ordered a GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3050 GAMING OC 8GB Graphics Card for my second rig ... The raidmax probably won't run it. Correct me if I am wrong but don't those power plugs need an 8 prong plug like the MSI Geforce RTX 3060 ti 8gb? Isn't 750 w enough to power the cards?

I think it should be a 6-pin power connector (many 8-pin connectors are actually split 6+2) for the 8GB 3050 and a quality 550W should handle it easily - the numbers below are for 8GB then 6GB:

Thermal and Power Specs: Maximum GPU Temperature (in C) 93 93
    Graphics Card Power (W) 130 70
    Required System Power (W) (5) 550 300
Supplementary Power Connectors 1x PCIe 8-pin - (no direct PSU cable required for the 6GB variant)

The cpu fan isn't spinning as fast as it should in my view compared with my other rig. So that would be an indication it's the ps?

Without being certain that all hardware, drivers and relevant settings/tweaks etc. are identical and have been tested/checked as such since originally setup that way, you can't trust a rough comparison like that, there are way too many variables.

I don't know what else it could be besides the ps ... I have to try something. The only thing I can think of for now is try a new ps. I ordered two for each rig.

Rosewill VSB750W 80+ Bronze semi -modular ATX 3.1 PS

Rosewill VMG750 750W 80 Plus Gold ATX Modular PSU

Guessing will likely cause further confusion.

How do you know its the CPU fan that's spinning slower, are you sure its not that the GPU fan isn't running? Or the PSU fan...

Made that mistake in the past years ago.Bought a PSU that only lasted a year.

Depending on how long you have had it.

Those cheap ones will degrade over time.

Sorry I didn't get back with you.

Some times the msi bios fan settings might need adjustments if they are spinning to slow.Msi should have a hardware monitor option in the bios so you can adjust them manually.

@satrow ... I was going by visual inspection ... gpu fans were running ... all fans were turning.

@Xo Well the ps from my second rig was bought back in 2018 so the ps from the first rig is probably around the same age. Would the fan not spinning at the proper speed cause me not to get a system beep or video?

Yes most likely it would unless you disabled those settings.

Some mother-board fan warnings are disabled by factory default in bios.

Do you have a motherboard speaker beep.

Yes ... it does have a speaker beep. I usually get one beep when it boots up, now .... nothing. Because it gave a beep before it went partially dead, I guess the mobo didn't disable it.

Wellsir ... I found out my mobo has a ezdebug led and it is on. So either it's the cpu ... memory ... or hard drive. The question is which? Anyone have any idea how I can test to find the part that failed?

Disconnect the hard drive, and run one stick of memory trading one for the other if it still doesn't work. Double check your mobo manual to see which slot is preferred, if any, for a single stick of RAM in the system board. Some are specific when running a single memory module. See if it POSTs and you can access BIOS.

Okay ... I disconnected the hard drive and took out one memory stick at a time. I got a system beep when I did it, but that was all.:(

I put in both memory sticks and I got the system beep ... but no video ... could it be the hard drive?

I connected the hard drive and put both sticks back in ... now when I start it I'm hearing 4 short beeps and that is as far as it will go. ... Check out the beep codes, but there is nothing listed about that many beeps.

Okay ... it turns out the problem was a bad dp/hdmi cable ... it was new too. I got into the bios ... as it booted up I got a message "cpu fan error, please check". It did boot up into linux. The fan is turning ... I don't see any problem with it. What do I need to look for to correct this?

Okay I wanted to let folks know that I found the cpu fan was plugged into the system fan socket ... and the system fan was plugged into a wrong socket also. I change them to the correct ones and now no more warning about the fans and the bios now sees them.

This case reminds me of a Jeep I know. Water pump goes bad. Remove old water pump and the acoutrements that go with it. Install new pump and reinstall aforementioned acoutrements. Crank, no start. Scratch head. Start checking all sensors. FYI crank sensor is nearly brand new. Bus 5 volts, all good. Disconnect coolant temperature sensor. Cranks and starts. Install new CTS. Still runs like top. Sometiiimes... if it ain't one thing, it's somethin' else...

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Y'know what I remembered reading that post? Air Force Delta. It was fun. Also, you had to up the difficulty level to fly inverted.
