I’m over the moon about this. I fully expected they’d remake SH & SH3 at least, more so after the success of SH2 re. I hope development started some time ago so there’ll be more news released next year on release dates etc.

    I’ve also decided to pre-order SH f & will certainly pre-order RE9.

    Did you play it, Goddess?

I'm actually more so looking forward to playing through the next spin off called Townfall, TBH, as this game is more like a spin off about Japan.

Why it has anything to do with Silent Hill besides a 'phenomenon' making stuff occur outside of the region itself, beats me.

Yet to play it, mind you. So I cannot comment on whether the gameplay is engaging enough, or that.

I did - bought the steelbook edition & thoroughly enjoyed it. Bloober did the game proud & I can’t wait to see what they do with the first game. If that is a success - & I’m sure it will be - then they most likely will remake SH 3 next.
Currently waiting for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag resync to release in July. I’ve finished Resident Evil Requiem.
I’ve pre-ordered Townfall, it’s based in Scotland & has a new protagonist. I tried SH f which is based in Japan but the combat was bad but the puzzles were good.

Capcom previously made me feel rather vinegary about the direction of the series, but their newest instalment has blown me away. It is dark and creepy, and has a main character who is the daughter of a protagonist from a spin off. Makes one hopeful they're gonna realise fans want a decent online, multiplayer title.

At least Konami are doing different things with the SH series, and making it feel modern in some ways. Like how "The Short Message" deals with post Covid pandemic life, and the peer pressure of being a young student in the Facebook era, where gaining 'likes' is more important than it should be for users online.

I felt RE 5 & 6 were poor entries so skipped those. I was reluctant to buy 7 because of that but did so as it looked scary, at first I didn’t like it due to Jack chasing Ethan all the time & couldn’t pass this section so I gave up on it. A few years later I tried 7 again & loved it.
I hear some of the DLC for 9 will feature Alyssa Ashcroft which will be interesting.
Currently running through the Leon must Die forever dlc.

I heard the story DLC could mark the return of Chris and Ada.

Leon is also married now, but to who? In the latest game, he can be seen wearing a ring. So maybe it's Ada. LOL. :)

    Excited!

There’s a lot of DLC rumours at the moment.
That’s supposedly the case, I sincerely hope it isn’t Ada as imo they don’t seem to have any chemistry together, so either his wife is a civilian or someone we haven’t seen in-game in a while - hopefully it’ll be Claire.

It could be that his spouse is Angela Miller, who was in the first animated movie. They went on a date. She said they should try going swimming again.

She was a pretty cool character, to be honest.

There’s certainly much debate on the mystery wife.

We now have a release date for SH Townfall - Sept 24th.

This video provides an interesting scope on where the series peaked, to how it was eventually revived, with different titles, leading to mixed results...

    Good video.

Code Veronica remake has officially been announced (now just Veronica it seems) due for release 2027 so Capcom must be far in advance with developement.

The old lady in the trailer comments on a boulder, but Chris didn't earn that status until RE5. ☺

Perhaps he’s punched other boulders we don’t know about.
I suspect the line is meant to suggest the room/flat belongs to Chris.

I feel like Capcom and Konami have redeemed themselves. I had called time on my ranting, because as you know, glazers on GameFAQs don't like to alter their viewpoints. But I think Capcom have seen that, stuff like RE6, the movies, the spin offs, and especially the embarrassing Netflix series, were lame additions to the franchise. So I respect that RE9 and SH2 brought the genre back to the classic style...

There’s certainly been some improvement with the games. Tbh I love the movies (apart from welcome to Raccoon city), they’re escapism films loosely tied to RE imo.
I’m awaiting the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake next.

Much of my time playing RE9 has literally been spent searching for various key items, or having to figure out where to locate parts to make a bomb, open a gate, or rescue somebody. Over and over again, I was running around an area, unsure of how to proceed.

The nippy part where you need to restore power to the cellblock to free Emily was prolonged boredom. So it has been a slog at times.

However, I noticed Capcom even took a page outta Days Gone, with the wolves following Leon Kennedy in the ruins of Raccoon City while he's on the BSAA's motorbike. It's way too similar to those chase sequences with Deacon St. John being attacked by wolves while riding about Oregon on the roads. :D

That part was long, Once you have all the files then you can cut a bit out - there’s no need to open the sleep area, I go direct to the room with the crate, move this & go pick up the T wrench.
I’m currently trying to do the Leon’s Inferno challenge.

I’m currently re-watching the Alice movies & have noticed similarities - clones in globe pods being one as well as mind control.

I think they want fans to consider Ozwell E. Spencer to have felt remorseful for how his virus caused the deaths of thousands.

The thing is, he was always presented as the cornerstone bad guy, being behind the Umbrella Corporation. So why he would be classed as nice now, post death, is odd.

I never did trust Capcom to always write good stories. They were getting better. But it seems strange to throw in scenes where Leon recalls meeting Robert and Marvin. These are from the remakes.

What questions what is canonical is revealing the skull of Robert's daughter. In the original game, he was pretty much just a minor character for Claire to pick up the crossbow. His daughter only appears in the 2019 remake. So I reckon the remakes are supposedly "replacing" the OG lore. Or at least it seems like this is what Capcom has initiated.

  19. Goddess Bastet

    Goddess Bastet Sergeant Major

I agree. Perhaps the DLC will answer the question as to the change of heart.

There’s some debate on who the skull belongs to with some suggesting it is Robert’s skull but imo it isn’t big enough to be an adult’s skeleton/skull. Capcom probably assume most people would’ve played the remakes than the original so are trying to add those games to the lore/canon.

I think Kendo had to reluctantly shoot her. He's playable in that non-canon side game in RE2. The name escapes me.

But yeah. It's a shame they're doing this. I'd really like to see the video, post on X, or whatever it was, where Capcom said "nobody will play the originals" anymore. I know YouTubers referenced it, but if that's all actually true, I kind of have lost respect for Capcom.

I also kind of hate how they copy other games. There's too many to cast up. They have copied a lot of stuff from unrelated titles. And so I just knew RE9 would be no different.

Seeing Leon getting attacked by wolves was funny, however.

On Reddit, I seen a thread where a user was asking about a guy named "Nemesis" from when he was well known on YouTube.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/residentevil/comments/1p1erhj/does_anyone_remember_this_re_youtuber_called/

I remember Nemesis so well, because he once made brilliant rant videos on RE and other games. And at the time, he particularly hated Ethan Winters, and 'called out' Capcom a lot for ruining Shinji Mikami's creation. But over time, he gradually changed after some nerds went and attacked him, and I got caught up in it for a while.

Eventually, he quit making videos exposing Capcom. He even got granted interviews with the voice cast, and acted all positive. Then I noticed he deleted his channel, but not before purging his uploads.

He even decided to do DMCA takedown requests on archive.org, as not one of his videos are available. But I did not save them, as trying to find good apps to do that isn't always that simple.

There are still interesting YouTubers who offer up commentary on the series, but the web as we knew it, is practically dead now.

Fans will always love the original games as they have sections which were removed from the remakes. I’m surprised if Capcom actually said that.
That’s the only section where auto aim doesn’t seem to work for me because the wolves move too quick.
Capcom may have served some form of cease & desist order against him as he closed/took down everything.

The RE waggon is certainly rolling along at the moment with Veronica & the Requiem DLC although there’s rumours that it will drop after the V release.
For me July will be big with Assassin’s Creed Black flag remake, I can’t wait for that & Sept for Townfall.
Read about the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time remake too but that would require a purchase of a Switch 2 which isn’t possible at the moment but if they also release a LoZ collector’s edition SW2 then I might splash out.

They will have put in flashbacks to RE2, because it would make no sense at all to show clips from a PS1 game. However, I assume now if RE1 gets remade with their current or successive engine, they'll likely be looking to replace RE1 (2002) as being canon (which as far as I know, replaced RE1 (1996) due to Lisa Trevor being involved as a test subject).

    What a bizarre lineage. :D

No doubt they’ll add some backstory/flashbacks from RE2 to Veronica.
They added new areas in the original remake so would expect the re-remake would become the new canon yes.

I certainly love variety in my videogames.

The head honcho at Konami should let these devs work on a new SH game. LOL.

As it is, I think this game was intended to be a love letter to the series anyway. I see no reason why they cannot extend a handshake to Konami. They did say they are aiming to release at least one new SH every year, which I assume can only be made possible if the outlet comes from a third party (as I don't know if Konami has an in-house team at the helm on anything in secret).

The Sinking City 2 is coming out in August. I should have a thank you credit to look forward to seeing, as I donated. Then Silent Hill: Townfall releases on the 24th of September. :D

It’ll be interesting to see how Townfall fares compared to SH2 re & f, people are already mentioning the first person gameplay & the stealth being prominent which iirc is akin to Shattered Memories.

Same here, the game looks excellent.

I had to go to the dentist today. Once I left, I went to buy a copy of the second SH movie, before walking back to my lair in the sweltering heat.

People all over Reddit are tearing it to shreds. LOL.

I found it boring. I wish they had giving a damn and did more to respect the source material.

Like, James just suddenly decides Maria ain't real, so it's perfectly fine for Pyramid Head to stab her through her back. LMAO.

Eddie runs off early on. He is never even seen again. So we never got to hear his babbling over being bullied, followed by a fight to the death in a freezer room. And there is no cameo from 'that stupid dog' either.

The movie is pish. It was a complete waste of time.

The ‘Return to silent Hill’ film certainly ignores plenty of the lore, Mary Shepard Sunderland now has several names & her maiden name is not Crane, it’s as though the film is saying everyone James meets is a manifestation of Mary rather than just Maria.
I still prefer the original/old SH film with Sean Bean.

I intend to get every top ten horror movie in the US since 1922. LOL! I already own most of them. Had to get some films 'on demand' because particular films have just never been released on home media. You cannot even get this info on Box Office Mojo. You basically have to look at the charts in the archived 'Variety' magazines. This was the only way to get information on grosses prior to the internet age.

As much as I love horror movies, I find a lot of modern ones to be very bland. They always have the same kind of storylines and obnoxious youngsters doing dumb things. So I favour films from the 40s to the 80s. I have never been a big 90s guy, even though the 90s was my 80s, you could say.

If a film is boring, I just cannot be bothered. It's like a golden rule in the art of filmmaking. If the plot sucks, the film as a whole is gonna be prosaic, tedious, and therefore vastly unappealing. It is why I hated on RE4 for a while, as that game is great for the action, but it changed RE, and somehow made the franchise end up being way too over the top. But in retrospect, I still like it a lot. I just dislike how it shifted RE towards weirder plot threads.

This is why I love "The Wolf Man" movies. The films revolve around a man called Larry Talbot, who is a werewolf. Mr. Talbot spends the series feeling bad that people have accidentally or intentionally revived him, as he knows he would be a danger to others. And so he sets out to discover if his condition is reversible. He often ends up fighting the other famous Universal monsters of his era, because the characters can crossover. But these films are so entertaining, in spite of their vintage look, and they do (kind of) follow on from one another.

But today's movies are normally dreadful, even with low expectations. You do get the odd gem here and there. Although I think an oversaturation of the genre has lowered my ability to get on board with horror films now, or horror games, because Capcom changes the plot too much, or things never get properly cleared up. Older films and games tend not to make me view them as being so mundane...

I love some of the old B&W Universal horror like The Wolf Man, The Mummy’s Hand & Frankenstein. I even remember the little rhyme in the Wolf Man.
Modern ones are usually aimed at the younger generation & are all screaming girls & gore - nothing is left to the imagination these days.
