Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Issue

I recently had an issue with Intel RST. My computer would freeze and the screen would go completely black. I would have to turn it off manually using the power button and it would be fine for a while, then happen again. I did a little troubleshooting and that told me IAStorDatasvc had stopped working. (see Screenshot #1--Reliability Monitor). While searching for a fix, I was told to search for it in my Services in the control panel. One problem: it's not showing up in Services (see Screenshot #2--Services). This started happening after a Windows Update. (see Screenshot #3--most recent update). And guess what right at the top of the list!! Everyone's favorite pain-in-the-rear program: CoPilot. I realize some may like Copilot, but I don't. It drives me nuts! Here are my questions: #1--was this issue caused by the latest update? If so, should I try to roll back the update and try again? If it wasn't the update, what could have caused this? (I checked and all drivers are up to date). #2--how do I fix this? I managed to open the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel (screenshot #4), but haven't tried using it to solve the issue.,

Just an amendment to the above post: even though the Intel RST service doesn't show up in my Services menu, it DOES show up on my list of programs in Revo Uninstaller.

 

It "could" be.
Sometimes RST has a toggle in the BIOS/UEFI. WU, for some OEMs, updates the BIOS.

Take a look in your BIOS for RST. If it's there, toggle it off. If it doesn't boot, toggle it back on.
From what I understand, if you don't have a RAID setup, you don't need RST.

Please have some form of backup of your drive/s before messing with this. At least if it goes south, you'll be back up and running with minimal effort.
Don't rely only on System Restore; when I say backup, I mean an image of your drive.
