Anyone See The New Resident Evil Movie?

Not me. But I was reading the 1 star reviews about it on IMDb. The rest seem to be made up to deliberately give the movie a very high score.

Capcom just needs to stop. And I know they have no say in the movies. But regardless, just STOP!

 

I haven’t but it does seem to have good reviews on Rotten Tomato site.
It seems having a main character who’s not in the games is a positive thing now.

 

Capcom liked the 2002 movie enough to copy the lazer hallway, which then resurfaced in TUC and some of the sequels to the movie. Plus, I thought the story, despite the changes, wasn't bad. They kept the premise mostly the same with a team entering a house and finding a lab with creatures, viruses, and traps. But I am not sure the new movie has anything akin to that.

I do think we have gotten to the point where anything in horror media has ran out of ideas. Or a series just becomes more of a snoozefest the more it progresses, with more filler than what goes between two slices of bread.

Sort of like how TWD (not the spin-offs) ended up dragging on for ages. Went from being about the hardships of Rick Grimes and co, to include hundreds of characters along the way that I just never cared for, as either they were boring, or they did not survive for very long to get to know them. Gave up watching it in 2018, I think, and now I don't particularly miss it. So I get a similar vibe with RE games.

I feel like if I were to miss a new game at launch, I will be able to play catch up at my own pace shortly into the future, and not be able to see what all the fuss was about to begin with. Which is not a good sign if you were once a fan who used to rush out to buy the newest entry, and you're seeing that there is a concerning difference in the vibe you have.

 

Apparently the new RE movie is getting good reviews but there’s news that SH film franchise is being rebooted due to the poor reception for Return to Silent Hill.
There’s only so much you can do with zombies, vampires, werewolves etc so games/movies start appearing the same. I had ideas about a Dracula movie where the usual measures (garlic, holy water etc) didn’t work - I mean would a cross or holy water work on a non-Christian vampire? The movie would be a race against time to find new ways to stop Dracula while he continues his reign of terror.

 

I think Capcom just sat on the idea of a second Wesker for years, teasing people. Then they introduced discount Wesker "Zeno" because everyone knows [Albert] Wesker was the real villain. So doing this has felt cheap to me. And Capcom can save money too, since they both share the same VA, at least in the recent releases. And Capcom thinks they are a clever clogs with cookie dough ideas. Ah, right.

I bet they'll say too that Leon and Chris just looks old in appearance, but is not old physically, and have a vague explanation that viruses altered their genes. Or they will ignore it altogether if it happened in a side story movie. Capcom never goes anywhere with their own plot anyway. I shouldn't beat myself up internally because they really do always make up things as they go along, ignore it thereafter, and they do the same thing with their next big game as well.

If there really is a cure being developed for each virus Umbrella has put out as the latest black market threat, that will deplete the fear factor. Because we know if the bite will lead to an infection that can be reversed, and every game has cheesy stunts and lines for the heroes to quip, the 'survival horror' title will not exist in a meaningful manner. "Scares" will exclusively rely on mass zombie ambushes, or hiding sequences, like with Grace and Sherry in the orphanage. Which will be very OTT and become overused.

It's a movie based on a long running video game series.

If you don't play games, you can still pick up the story. For anybody familiar with the games, the changes undergone may be an annoyance.
