They are all so starting to build and waste money on AI farms.

With all these Data centers sucking up power.

Is that what that was? If so, mea culpa: I bit on it. If not, my assessment of nonsense still stands, and the one who posted the nonsense ought to put up or shut up.

    Greetings to you folk...
I was caught by the thread title and just throw in a thought.
AI is an incredible help for the study and investigation the Pali canon.

Oh, I understand it can be a help, but the potential dangers (in my opinion) far outweigh the potential benefits. Any tool can be useful when used properly, just as many can be lethal when misused...and there are waaay too many people who are pushing to remove the controls from AI.

I've had enough of the intrusive crap from AI. I have a PC, Laptop, android phone, tablet. I want to get rid of Google Search, at the least but don't know what to use instead, Duck Duck Go was ok. Honestly, most of all, I want to do a normal search, as in before AI!! I'll look around MG for some options, but thought maybe someone on this thread could help me? Thanks much!

Firefox and Firefox nightly seems as of late has a lot of Telemetry added to it in the background.Even though you turn them off in settings they are still active in about:config.

I turned all of my Telemetry off.

Just type Telemetry in about:config search and this should pop up.

I all so agree some of the information is dangerous And a lot of it is not perfect in anyway shape or forum.

Reasons why i try to limit the Telemetry as much as i can it's none of there business what i do on the internet.

Anyone sick of these Sylvester Stallone AI videos where he is applauded by the PAs? LMAO.

As much as I like Sly, he and Arnie and so on have no business making action movies any longer. I'm very happy with how their long careers turned out. I couldn't have asked for better childhood heroes. But this is not 1985, hehe.

Yes, do re-cut your entire filmography for Amazon, Sly, like that will really change anything. :p

So, this thread kind of wandered off into the woods. I have no problem with people criticizing AI. Privacy, misinformation, corporate overreach, stolen artwork—those are legitimate concerns, and I'm happy to have that conversation.

What I'm tired of is people confusing uninformed hysteria with critical thinking and blanket contempt with intelligence. And trolling? Honestly, it's one of the most pathetic forms of human interaction. It's what people resort to when they have nothing worthwhile to contribute but still desperately need attention. A hobby for incels who mistake antagonism for a personality.

I miss when online communities were places where people shared what they knew, solved problems, challenged ideas, and occasionally learned something from someone they disagreed with. Too often, the conversation gets swallowed by people who complain about everything, blame everyone else, and mistake their resentment for a personality.

So, here's a novel idea: instead of declaring AI the downfall of civilization, let's take one specific concern—say, AI-generated search results presenting false information as fact—and examine how often it happens, why it happens, how to verify the results, and what alternatives actually work better. Share your findings. Compare experiences. Help someone leave the conversation a little better informed than when they arrived. That's a discussion. That's a contribution. That's how you make an online community worth being part of.

I don't need everyone to agree with me. I don't even need them to like the things I like. I just want people to bring something more to the table than a bad attitude and an endless supply of complaints.

Disagreement can be interesting. Debate can be enlightening. Even being proven wrong can be useful. But none of those things happen when the goal is simply to provoke, posture, or make sure everyone knows how miserable you are.

If we're going to spend our time talking to each other, let's at least make it worthwhile, or at least entertaining.

I wish I could be rational about this topic, Wenchie, but I cannot. I FEAR AI. I fear where I see it taking us. I hate it for what it has done to a couple of friends of mine. I hate those who have developed it without proper regard for "what if?".

It was almost inevitable that something along these lines would be developed, and our hubris might very well be the cause of our demise. I recognize that this particular genie can't be shoved back into its bottle, but I sincerely wish it had never gotten out.

It sometimes amazes me how prescient the genre has been. Will it be in this case? Will it be "Colossus"? Will it be "Robopocalypse"? Will it be "The Terminator"? I don't know...and the biggest problem right now is that neither do AI's creators. There are no adequate safeguards, and I don't know if there can be.

I think, given the state of things, "The Matrix" seems likely after "I, Robot" (probably for smexy toys, instead of aids, and the robots get the ick) goes horribly wrong.
