    Hi my friends desktop is a dell with windows 11. I have a question only. Yesterday my friend called me and she said that her computer is black and why and says it is updating but then her mouse was moving. I told her shut it down now! Then I came over turned it on and it said remote access was on only her computer does not have remote access,The reason I know is because it said, it was not available for this computer and it was written in red letters. Which looked strange to me. I went into deeper settings and unchecked remote access. All of a sudden the little idiot hacker came on again even after we shut it off and did a malware bytes scan. Anyway I had to immediately shut it down. I told my friend call your bank and make sure they did not steal out of ur account. Sure enough through Amazon they took almost 2000. Thank God amazon flagged it and now my friend is changing her whole bank account and take her computer in to get it fixed.

    My question it how can someone have remote access and take over your computer if your remote access is not able to be used on your computer? Mine even says in red no access to remote access like my friends. I am concerned and need to know how to prevent any of that from happening again. It was scary to watch someone take over your computer and we do not even know if he has all her information. Any advice would be so appreciated because I have a feeling this will get worse in the future.:( Thanks:)

    Greetings and welcome to the Major Geeks Malware Forum.

    Yes, a computer can be accessed even if remote access is disabled. Via a malicious website or download malware can install 3rd party programs to allow for remote access. This is currently a popular tactic. One example is the Dev7 malware.

    I would highly recommend the computer be checked for active malware. If you would like that to be done please complete the below.

    ===================================================

    Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST)

    --------------------
    • Download FRST64 and save the file on your Desktop
    • If your computer language is other than English right click on the FRST64 icon and rename it to FRST64english
    • Right click on the icon and select Run as administrator
    • Note: If you receive any warning about the download it is a false positive and you can ignore it. Click on More info to get the Run anyway option
    • Click Yes to the disclaimer
    • Click Scan and allow the program to run
    • When completed, FRST.txt and Addition.txt reports will be saved on the Desktop
    • Please attach the reports to your reply

    Okay but the problem is every time we turn on the computer the hacker takes over the desktop. My friend is taking it in to staples to have them fix it.

    OK but I am sure we can fix it for free. You could always download FRST onto a USB on another computer then transfer it onto the desktop of the compromised computer. There would be no need to connect to the Internet with the compromised computer.

    Just an option to consider.

    Yes thanks but my friends bank had to have it done by a professional before she could open her account. I wanted to do it but it had to be cleared by a professional. I wanted to know ways to prevent that happening in the future. How can we protect ourselves?
