Hey peeps. My new FEAR game some how got stuck in my only DVD optical drive. The drive still plays the FEAR disk to perfection. The tray still slides out but reveals no disc. SO the FEAR disc is still trapped somewhere inside. Ive installed Optical drives before but have never had to actually dismantle it to retrieve my media. Is this hard? Will this permanently ruin my DVD drive? When I do dismantle it will alot of screws and springs pop out????

    Thx for any help given!!!!!!

CD DVD drives have been known to to Disintegrate disks, if thats the case you should see pieces.

Remove the drive from PC case
Then you should be able to remove the top half of the metal case/housing of the drive, should be only 4 screws, you probably will have to remove or loosen the front cover from the drive first.
Once you remove the top of the DVD case/housing you should be able to see your CD/DVD or parts of it (As far as I know no parts or springs will fall out when removing only Half of the drives case/housing)
You should be able to retrieve your disk without dissambly of any other parts.

Last thought if your CD/DVD got stuck or it destroyed Media your drive may need replacing anyway.
A couple months ago I bought a NEC 3550a CD/DVD burner from Newegg for $27 great deal for an excellent drive

    Good Luck!

I do it at least once a year to give my drives a good cleaning. Taking the face plate off may involve removing the lip off the front if the disk tray. Generally no parts will go scattering if you take the top off of the case.

Yeh, Im going to order a new one, thought about NEC or Lite-On. But thx for the reply, thats the exact info I needed. This happened a year ago with my old HP, my GTA VC disc got stuck inside the DVD drive and I never took it out, its still in there in fact. Its like the spinner just leaves the disc somewhere in the drive, I think its because my cat sheds alot of fur and my pc eats it up.

    Thx for the help!
