“basic Software” Doesn’t Appear In Printer Driver’s Install Wizard

I have an HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One printer, and a Lenovo ThinkCentre M75e 5042 A7U desktop PC running Windows 10 Pro.

Please bear with me briefly while I describe events leading up to this problem, which I think may have some bearing on this.

Recently I had problems with my computer, and I had to reset Windows. So the printer driver needed to be reinstalled. I downloaded the printer driver setup file from HP, and ran it. There was some problem, but HP’s troubleshooter was able to resolve it, and the printer driver was successfully installed, and the printer then worked fine. And this all happened without me having to disable my Avira Antivirus.

But then I had a disk crash. So I reset Windows again, and the system then seemed stable.

But I felt sure my hard drive was about to fail, so I then backed up a disk image of it onto a USB mass storage device, and restored the image to a brand new hard drive. I did this BEFORE installing the new drive in the computer, using a USB drive adapter, because I was afraid I’d have another disk crash if I rebooted. But the restore went fine, so I shut down the computer, installed the new drive, and rebooted.

Upon rebooting, the BIOS said “configuration has changed,” then DHCP did its thing, then the BIOS said “exiting PXE ROM”.

Then the BIOS said “error boot sequence,” then “no boot file name extension”.

But then Windows launched, and it said it had some updates for me.

So, without trying to reinstall the printer driver again right then, I rebooted. Windows did the pre-shutdown preparations for the updates, and the computer rebooted.

Again the BIOS said “configuration has changed,” then DHCP did its thing, then the BIOS said “exiting PXE ROM”.

But this time the BIOS did NOT say “error boot sequence,” or “no boot file name extension”.

And then Windows launched, and it finished its updates. And the computer seems to be working fine. But now I have to install the printer driver again.

But NOW when I run the printer driver installer, it still gives me the option to select what I want as part of the installation bundle (help, updates, etc.), but the “Basic Software” itself is NOT listed, so I can’t get it.

The Basic Software is definitely not already installed — it doesn’t appear in either Windows’ Programs and Features or IObit Uninstall — so that’s not the reason it doesn’t appear when running the printer driver’s install wizard.

The printer DOES appear in Windows’ Devices and Printers, but it does NOT appear in the Select Printer list when I try to print anything.

I tried disabling my Avira Antivirus, and I even tried installing the other items in the HP install bundle even though the Basic Software itself did not appear in the list, but neither of those things worked. I even tried redownloading the printer driver installer.

HP’s troubleshooter is no help. The nearest article of theirs I can find to this problem is “Printer Not Found During Network Driver Setup (Windows),” but I’m just trying to connect the printer directly to my computer, not on a network.

Does anybody have any idea what I could try next?

    Thanks for any help.
