    w00t :D

First single player PC game (if you don't count UT and UT2k4, cmon they're multiplayer really :p ) I've ever completed fully. And it was AWESOME. It took me a while (about 3 weeks) to do, I got frustrated, I got annoyed, but I kept soldiering on and managed to completed it.

    The ending is confusing. :p

But who cares! The "easter egg" at the end of the credits is funny too :D by watching the credits I found out that the overwatch voices were done by someone called Ellen.

In my books, hl2 will be a pretty significant chapter in gaming history :D

Thats something I highly doubt I'll ever do,,
In fact the last game I rode out to the end was on a "super nintendo",,

Oh crud, I just showed my age

No cheats. HAH. Not many of my friends can say THAT. They're boring sods and just no_clip the level if they get stuck.

I can never understand why anyone would want to spoil a game by using cheats. (I've finished Far Cry on Veteran level without them)

On the rare moment I get stuck I use a walkthrough at the most, and even that is bad enough.

Anyway, about Half Life 2, I'm thinking of buying it, but not if Valve/Steam still have their draconian validation software that requires you to be connected to the net and run in the background etc.

I've heard they released a patch that simplifies that?

getting killed over and over again during certain levels spoils a game for some people, so using a cheat code brings the "happiness factor" back to the game. I will try to get through a game without using a cheat, but for some places in a game I'd rather god mode it so I don't get totally upset and just quit.

Each to their own, but for me it totally spoils the game, even more so when I have paid almost $100 for it.

If you are getting killed over and over again in a certain spot then your tatics suck. The computer isn't going to behave different so you have to.

Anyway, if I can get through Far Cry and IronStorm without a cheat code, anyone should be able to, but again each to their own.

Mmm, I don't see the point of cheating. That way you never see all the little things that make a game great. You know, like the small details, in HL2 for me it was the physics... really nice physics actually.

Every object acts the way it looks like it should. You get moments, things fall at the right speed, things have varying friction, stuff breaks realistically, and I think there is even air resistance. Really cool. The gravity gun really makes it worth it, too. Particularly on the last level, where... nah, I won't spoil it, but the grav gun gets a whole lot cooler ;)

I'm very glad that I bought the game, its well worth the £40 I paid for it.

I'll admit, I have used a hint guide on that game, if I got REALLY stuck... but it is only a hint guide, i.e. it doesn't solve problems for you, it just points you in the right direction. I got really stuck on a particular part with turrets... I kept getting grenades thrown at me and all my turrets fell over, I came up with my own tactic on how to avoid that from happening :)

Hey does Half Life 2 still have that stupid Valve/Steam software you have to install and connect to the net to play the game?

I really want to buy it, but I won't unless they have removed all that validation rubbish.

I think so, i mean, you can't play half life without steam.

Oh, yes, but its not that bad....

I mean, if you do "remember my password" you don't HAVE to be online to start the game up. It will download a buch of files when it first boots up, basically the most up to date game code from what I can tell.

Other than that, its not at all intrusive. You have to register a steam account with Valve and register your product (in my case HL2 Collectors Edition) with that account. It means you can play HL2 on someone elses computer (say a net cafe) without breaking the law.

    That sounds almost acceptable.

I remember reading when it was first released that you had to jump through hoops just to install and play the game and plenty of people returned the game and complained.

To their credit, Valve released a patch that removed some of the steps.

Pity that would happen to probably the best FPS game ever made.

I have the original Half Life and that was ground breaking in it's day and still enjoyable so I might try Half Life 2.

    Thanks for the information guys.

Yeah i got Hl2 and being a 56k user i was unsure about the whole steam thing.

But i installed it and every thing and i went online and it had to validate the files (60mins) and then when i clicked play and it had to install the latest patch (30mins)
then i restarted and i went online again and played HL2 a level. now when i am offline i can click Hl2 and it says play off or on line.....i think it is alright...automaticly downloads updates for ya

havent beat it yet but still trudging on. the game is to great to ruin it by using a cheat. the difficulty, for me, is one of its benefits.
