.000 file HELP

I have a old hard drive that was running dos and I have succesfully retrieved the file from the hard drive but it is in a compressed form. The compression used was a common compression from dos with a file extension .000 I now have the file on a pc runnin xp but am totally lost in how to decompress it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

However, that thread is from 2005, so maybe someone has since found a solution?
