("0164 memory size error"). I currently have a IBM NetVista A310 8315-KHU, 2.0 GHz and running 256 MBs RAM, OS is XP v3. So purchase a MemoryMaster stick of 1 GB RAM for upgrade. The memory says its compatible to 400 MHz, 333, and 266 MHz. But when removed original 256 Mbs and install the 1 GB memory stick, power up and it posts DOS screen of '0164 memory size error' during POST test and stays there. It asks to hit F1 funtion to go to BIOS or F2 to resum, but neither of the keys does anything. I removed new DRAM and reinstalled the original 256 MBs stick, but same probem. Removed the 256 MBs memory stick, unplugged the power cord, boot computer without any memory hopefully to reset the problem. It won't boot ofcouse. Then installed original 256 MBs or tried the new 1 GB RAM, none works but the same error message and the desktop wont go any more fast the point. There is one time I can hit F1 go to BIOS Utility and see it recognizes the new 1 GBs RAM, but Memory Bus Speed says it 's 133 MHz. Is this the problem with memory incompatible (new 1GB stick is 400 MHz, 333, and 266 MHz speed). I bought the stick online from Bestbuy so take the memory back to store and the Geek Tech check my desktop module and says it is compatible and can be upgraded to max of 2 GBs RAM. I took the stick back home and tried to reinstall it and it is same problem during POST test ("0164 memory size error"). Now even put back the original 256 MBs, still fails at same place and seems I can not pass the failing state. Please help!

The Bestbuy geek tech mentioned there is something about setup in BIOS but he is not sure what's need to be done to make it work.

Can someone please help? I have tried to remove and reinstall the original 256 MBs memory stick with both two memory slots but the PC keeps failing after 2 beeps sound. Hit F1 to Setup or F2 to Resume will not do anything. I can 't pass this failing state. HELP! :cry
