Got a AMD 64 3000 with an Asus K8S- MX mobo with 256 DDR RAM @ 333Mhz running XP Pro on a SeaGate 120 GB SATA HDD supported by a nVidia 128 MB FX series with a Samsung DVD/CDRW.

while using system on generally any applications or if system is ledt alone and goes to sllep or hibernates, ends up with a blue screen with stop error code 0x00000080 and not much else on the specifics. Is it possible that I am dealing with a software bug or is it a hardware issue?

did check it but the issue is there is no message after the stop error code of NMI_HARWARE_FAILURE at all. it begins to dump physical memory and stops after the dump is complete. takes about 5 secs max to complete the memory dump

have you ran memtest ? if not, run it for a few hours

sounds like hardware at this point ... but i would make a checklist of all your hardware and making sure you have all the necessary drivers .. as well as the latest versions thereof

also you might try removing all unneeded components and just boot w/ your video card and boot drive only

yo pyrate.... how long this mem test supposed to take? been almost 6 hrs and its still runnin. has bought up few errors while runnin the L2 test. now i'm using public library system to see how long this test is supposed to take.
will errors on L2 mean proc error?
got a AMD 64 bit 3000 and i heard that this program may give errors for processor in some tests. using only a single 256 MD DDR chip on system.

the test goes on forever so far as I know ... and I never heard of getting CPU errors w/ a memory test:rolleyes: ... I would try a different stick of RAM and run it again(for a few hours ... I know it's a pain), cause it sounds to me like you have a bad stick of RAM

Pyrate~ is right does sound like a bad stick of ram, the errors in memtest suggest this but this L2 stuff I don't fully understand, the 64 systems do have on chip memory controllers but I never heard of memtest suggesting such a thing so I would try another stick of ram. You should have more ram anyway and pc3200/400ddr. For greatest stability the ram and fsb should run at the same speed.

After reading around about this error code it is suggested to make sure you installed the chipset drivers and have all the M$ updates as well.

could it also be the motherboard has a bad RAM slot? ... might try moving the RAM to different slot

Doubt it, but heck its a computer, so ya never know and worth a shot.

I have a board now with a bad slot and when I put ram in that dimm all the thing does is beep at me.
