I have what is being called the weirdest problem that they have ever seen!

Have you ever heard of being able to connect to 'all' websites with the exception of 1?
This has been going on since Friday. 4 days now.
I am able connect with every website in my directory except for 1. (adult cam directory)
This particular site uses iframes to connect.
When I try to connect in Firefox3 I get:
    Address Not Found
Firefox can't find the server at site.site.com
The same thing happens in IE 6 but there is no explanation in IE.
When I ping or tracert this site I get site does not exist.
    My modem logs go crazy!
I get DNS Packet Dump bytes that start in groups from
    (0-31) up to (672-674).
NOW, This is the bizarre part: if I try to connect to this site through an online proxy
I CAN connect with no problems.

I have contacted my ISP, and they are clueless.
I contacted the company. They are not having problems.
I had a friend look at it and he shrugged his shoulders and had no clue.
    I have changed modems.
I have virus scanned and scanned for errors via PC Pitstops online scanner,
I have done every thing I know how to do.

Can anyone offer any insite, suggestions, matches for burning of computers etc???

As an aside .. This is, to the best of my knowledge the only site doing this.
There may be more, but I deal in a few hundred sites and it's hard to tell at this point.
    Thanks!!!

If you access it directly by the IP address can you get there? Have you tried changing your DNS servers from your ISP's to a public DNS like "www.opendns.com"?

    No to the IP address.
No to the opendns, and I'll tell you why.
I know logically, if I can connect through an online proxy
I will be able to connect using the opendns.
That is great in theory, but I need to know what happened from
Thursday to Friday to cause this mess. And it needs to be corrected.

Not necessarily... If you can't connect directly by the IP address, then it's not a DNS issue and changing DNS servers should have no impact on the problem. If the site is dropping ICMP traffic, then trying to ping it won't really tell you anything. You could use something like "http://network-tools.com/" to ping the IP and see if it responds... If it does not, then the site is most likely dropping ICMP traffic (as most do). If it does respond, then it sounds like it may be a routing issue between you and the site. If the ping responds from Network Tools, you should then be able to trace the route to the destination IP from both the Network-Tools site and from your machine and compare the results. If it's truly a routing issue, then the problem may not be yours to fix and may not even be your ISP.

OK I went to that site and was able to ping and tracert using site.site.com.
The Network-Tools site broke the URL to an IP.
Then I came back to my machine and discovered something interesting.
If I ping or trace using the numeric breakdown of the server, I can get that ping and trace BUT ...
It is NOT the correct actual server that I need to connect to.
I tried to substitute the ip for the site.site.com and that was a non site.
I'm going to email the company and get the exact and correct ip of this server.
    I will post back later.

    I just tried something else.
I tried connecting to this iframe'd site through
    a few different translation websites.
    That site became visible!
I don't get this at all!
It's getting more mysterious every second!

    Hi

Just a thought as to is this site being blocked by a security application you have as the type of site you mention may end up in a blocked listing definition file in the likes of Spywareblaster or Spybot S&D especially if both IE and FF are showing same none connection of webpage.

I would also just incase your local DNSCache has a negitive entry in it, flush it, open a CMD window and type ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter

What is the result of a traceroute from your pc to the website in question, again a CMD windows and type traceroute website.com ( no need for hhp://www. and website.com = the website in question )?

As for what happened from Thursday ~ Friday, did you do any updates to the OS or any software at all, did any AVs or Security apps autoupdate, install any new software?

I am wayyy ahead of you. I did the flush already.
I had the isp reload my dns or whar ever they do to it.
    I have NO security software.
Just ZAISS, and it is off at the moment.
I didn't do anything from Fri to today. That is
why this is making me more nutz than usual!
I just did a whole series of tracerts for the company that is question.
They are trying to figure this out too.
I am waiting to hear back from them as I type.

OH... I tried something else too. I tried going through this iframe via
translation websites, and I was able to connect.
When I started this thread I called it:
I have what is being called the weirdest problem that they have ever seen!
    was I kidding? LOL!

Have you had a peek in your hosts file? It's really a long shot, but, it only takes a minute to look...

The hosts file is a text file generally located in %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\

I'm assuming your OS is XP or later.

hehehe that was the very 1st thing I looked at :)
I am going to find some software that looks for port blocking.
Maybe that will give me some insite as to what is going on.

I need to find out more information about this too:
FRI SEP 05 07:57:40 2008 DNS Packet Dump bytes (640-658)
    12:. 4B:K C0:. 0C:. 00:. 01:. 00:. 01:. 00:. 00:. 00:. 19:. 00:. 04:. 42:B 06:.
    12:. 1A:.

Could be on their end... They may have you blocked inadvertently.

Might want to shoot them an email or something.

Every thing that has been suggested so far here, as been done a lonnngggg time ago.
This one still IS 1 for the books! NO one has an answer :(

No one here really has enough information to be able to properly diagnose the problem, unfortunately. :( We don't know what's already been tried and what hasn't, and we'll of course always start with the basics.

All pings and tracerts have been done to all of this site's servers, and this is the only one that gives an error:
Unable to resolve target system name thissite.site.com
My isp has reset my connection on their side.
I have ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /all on my side.
My firewall is off, XP firewall is off.
I have scanned for virus, spyware, malware, and everything in the middle LOL!
When I use an online proxy I can connect to this site.
When I use an online translation service, I can connect to this site.

    What else can be done?
    I'm open to almost anything.
    TY!

You said that you can't access the site by putting the IP of the server into your browser, correct?

This sometimes will indicate a problem, but not necessarily. Sometimes this works, like it generally will in the case of a google server, but sometimes it doesn't. For example... If you have a web server that hosts multipule websites, it will examine the incoming packets to determing which website to serve. When you put the IP of the server into your web browser, obviously the packets aren't going to include the desired URL/domain. So, the server cannot give you the website.

Have you been able to successfully ping the server using an IP address instead of the domain name? For example, instead of putting in ping google.com, put in 64.233.187.99.

If you can do that, then again this points to a dns issue. Obviously clearing your cache may solve the problem(you've already done this though) but it could be another DNS servers cache... which clearing yours wont help. SO, we can stick the site in your hosts file to bypass all this.

Just open the hosts file using a text editor, go down to the bottom, on a new line, and put in the IP address, followed by a space, followed by the URL, without the http://. It tells you in the hosts file how to add a line, just follow that and you should be good.

Edit: I went back and read one of your posts... You say that you CAN ping using the IP address, but it's not the site that you want... This is probably because that server is not just a webserver for that one site. Try editing your hosts file and see if this allows you to get to the site.

What I am trying to access is an iframe that houses webcams, and live banners for this site.
I received the correct server info this AM for the SITE.site.com
NOT the ip. This is what I get when trying to ping it:
There are 3 servers. They all gave the same result.
Ping request could not find host SITE1.site.com .
Please check the name and try again.

I am in process of setting up a dial up to see if my isp is banned.
    Gotta try everything!
