I got the red light in the bottom right quadrant. Talked to customer support, and my 3 year warranty ran out for my 2007 manufactured Xbox 360. That makes sense...

Anyways, for me to get it repaired, I have to pay "only $99, and it comes with repair, 1 year warranty, and free shipping". Maybe it's me, but I feel like I shouldn't have to pay another $100 when I spent $550 on the console a year ago.

I'm thinking of doing one of the following...

    a. open up xbox360, try to fix it.
    b. beat xbox360 down with hammer
    c. save money and buy gaming PC
    d. buy another xbox360

I told lady there was NO WAY I am sending it in. That's retarded! I'd rather buy a newer version Jasper Xbox360. I will pay $100 MORE but I will have store warranty, and won't have to wait weeks to receive it and potentially send it back again because they didn't fix it for good...

Open it up and try to find the CMOS reset button this will clear and get rid of the ROD just 1 click and that is what you paid $99 for.

If I open it up, my warranty dies. I know I ain't paying, but what if I act angry and get them to fix it free?

Usually the RROD involved 3 quadrants, not just one. You might have another problem that is being show to you using the one quadrant light. If the 360 is completely dead, maybe you can introduce the console to the 3 quadrant RROD by having it heat up, maybe using the towel method. Please note I'm telling you to destroy your hardware even further. Just putting the idea out there. Its up to you if you decide to take that route.

I would try calling back and talk to a different CSR. If your 360 was manufactured in 2007, you still have plenty of time to get it repaired under their extended 3 year warranty.

Yeah, right. Call back, and get escalated to a supervisor that can help you. If you paid for a 3-year warranty then harass and hassle and pester and torment then until they honor it. And if they try to tell you again that the warranty is up, then demand a written explanation for how that happened.

Or you can follow what seems to be your instinctive response, and just let them screw you over, and while doing so send them several additional hundred dollars for a newer model of what obviously is a faulty product... up to you.

Seriously. You're going to buy another Xbox 360 after the company that makes them treats you like this...? How does that even begin to make sense?

I am confused. You have a 3 year warranty on a product made in 2007. At midnight tonight, it will be 2009. You should have one more year on your warranty. Or am I missing something. My math is not the greatest but...:confused

    It was sarcasm. LOL

Sorry, I don't know how to write that...that's what I told my friends yesterday and talked to a 2nd lady who kept repeating same thing. I'm not going to let them screw me over. If I get it fixed, I will get it modded as well...

I already broke the seal and opened it...I just need to open the chassis. I consider myself a decent techie, but I doubt I will fix it.

Mimsy, I like you. You behave exactly like my mom. I will not buy another PC, that's just one of the options I put out. I plan to get a gaming PC in a month or two. Xbox360 has been a failure and I mentioned to the woman I would have NEVER bought produyct with 30-35% failure rate. MS was saying they had 5-10% and that was BS and when I mentioned it, she continued reading from a script.

My husband and I bought a 360 a month after release and we are on our third replacement now. I'm bitter about them, to put it mildly... with all the accessories we have bought for it we have spent a fortune on an almost-functional console that had to be replaced once a year from hardware failure. If you ask me, that's unforgiveable, and in hindsight, we should never have bought the thing ;)

I agree...$98 for their fault? The hardware failure is THEIR fault and the way they spoke to me is that they made it sound like it's MY FAULT. I can't send it in since I opened it yesterday, but when I get to completely open the chasis, I'm going to do my absolute best to fix it.

Fred_G's first rule of modding or fixin' electrical boxes: Always place a sledgehammer or other large crushing type tool near the box in question, so it knows you are serious about the repair/mod. :-D

Good luck! Take some picts as you work on it. I have never messed with the console games since the old Sega days...

ALready opened everything outside the X-clamps, and I've ordered parts to repair it for $7 with free shipping. I might consider modding it to screw Xbox over for screwing ME over...

Really need to escalate this higher than the 1st tier support you will contact at first on this as many will read from the script, if your xbox was purchased in 2007/8 and has 3yr warranty then your intitled to a fix, so hope you have reciept and warranty docs still for proof and even say you will scan and email them to the support supervisor.
